MidwayUSA is running a promotion right now on Leupold scopes, with deep discounts. Among the sale items, there are four scopes well-suited to competition on sale with significant savings. This is your opportunity to save hundreds on a high-quality optic for your benchrest, silhouette, or service rifle. The 35X and 40X comp scopes, for example, are the “real deal” — the same scopes used by many top competitors at registered benchrest matches.

First off, the 35X and 40X fixed-power Leupold Competition scopes on on sale for $824.99, discounted from $1099.99. These scopes are very effective for Benchrest competition and have been used to set numerous records and win matches. They are reasonably light weight with good repeatability and long-term reliability. Both 35X and 40X models feature a 45mm objective lens and side-focus parallax.

MidwayUSA also has the Leupold FX-3 Silhouette scope on sale. This factory-refurbished 30x40mm optic was designed for silhouette competition, though it can also be used for Benchrest or F-Class competition. Originally listed for $699.99, it is now marked down to $431.99, a 38% savings. This is a great deal for a 30-power big name optic.

Last but not least is the Leupold 1.5-4X Mark AR MOD 1 optic at $262.49. This is suited for action events, 3-Gun Comps, and Service Rifle competition. Current CMP Service Rifle rules allow optics with up to 4.5 power magnification. This scope has 1/10 Mil clicks and FIXED (non-adjustable) parallax. You’ll have to pay a LOT more for a premium service rifle scope with adjustable parallax.

The big news at Nightforce’s SHOT Show booth was a new First Focal Plane (FFP) ATACR with a five times zoom range. The new 7-35x56mm ATACR offers tactical and long range shooters the ability to go from a wide field of view at seven power, all the way up to very high 35X magnification. That makes this one scope that can truly “do it all” — from short-range moving targets to 1000 yards and beyond.

With a fat 34mm main tube, the 39.3 ounce 7-35x56mm ATACR offers 60 MOA of windage adjustment and a whopping 100 MOA of total elevation adjustment. The elevation turret includes a ZeroStop. Nightforce notes: “With parallax adjustment down to 10 meters and 100 MOA of elevation travel, precision is attainable from short range distances to … extreme long range[.] This riflescope offers an incredible field of view across the entire magnification range[.].”

The new 7-35X ATACR is offered with either 1/4 MOA or 0.1 Mil click values and three reticle choices: Mil-R F1, MOAR F1, TReMoR3 F1. The illuminated MIL-R and MOAR reticles are shown below. Note that the MOAR offers 80 MOA of hold-over below center.

Sightron 10X-50x60mm Riflescope Field Test
Review by James Mock
Mr. Allen Orr of Sightron was kind enough to loan me one of their fine SIII riflescopes for testing. Since I shoot 600-yard score matches more than anything else, I requested the 10-50x60mm model with MOA-2 reticle. This is a premium scope in every way and it may be the very best buy for a long range scope today. Real world price for this scope is around $950-$1000 ($977.61 on Amazon.com). This represents a good value considering the scope’s build quality and features: 50X max magnification, 1/4-MOA adjustments with 10 MOA per revolution, ExactTrack windage and elevation system, Zack-7 lens coating, 60mm objective lens, target knobs with zero stop, and lifetime warranty. The MOA-2 reticle’s hash marks span 2 MOA at 24X and 1 MOA at 48X. Eye Relief is ample: 4.5″ at 10X and 3.8″ at 50X. Field of view at 100 yards is 9.6′ at 10X, 2.2′ at 50X.

Sightron MOA-2 Reticle Manual | Sightron Riflescope Manual

NOTE: Sightron also offers this scope with 1/8-MOA clicks with a Fine Cross-Hair Reticle, Target Dot Reticle, and Mil-Dot Reticle. There are also multiple Sightron SIII 10-50x60mm models with illuminated reticles.

Sightron SIII 10-50x60mm Shows Excellent Repeatability
After receiving the scope, I mounted it on my BAT 6mm Dasher and did my “standard tests”. I shot the “square” and the adjustments were spot on and the repeatability was faultless. I also shot a group at two powers (24X and 50X) and the point of impact was the same.

In our August 600-yard match, I used the scope and was favorably impressed. I did not have the opportunity to shoot 600 yards prior to the match but I do have a 100-meter range at my house. From past experience, after zeroing my Dasher at 100 I simply dial up 11 MOA to shoot at 600 yards. The weather in Louisiana has been something that I have never seen before and the August 20th match was moved to August 27th, but there was still standing water in front of the targets. Also, the fog was so heavy that the start of the match was delayed for 45 minutes.

Sightron Nails a 50 Score on First-ever Match Target
When the match started, the Sightron with 11 MOA dialed in was perfect for elevation and a little right. After a couple of clicks I was ready to shoot. My first target was a pleasant surprise — scoring a 50-1X. I was very impressed with this scope and I shot it at 48X all day in the heavy mirage. I ended up finishing third, two points behind the winner.

With its 60mm objective lens, this is a large scope. It is 16.9″ long and weighs 30.1 ounces. If you can tolerate that weight in the discipline you shoot this scope represents a great value for the long-range shooter. I am favorably impressed with it. For you varmint shooters, this scope with its wide range of power would make a superb addition to you favorite prairie dog rig. Do note, as we explained above, there are other versions of this scope with 1/8-MOA clicks if that is your preference.
Good shooting — James Mock

Less than Half the Cost of New 34mm 10-50x60mm Sightron
Sightron’s SIII series 10-50x60mm riflescopes have a 30mm maintube. NOTE: Sightron has announced a new “SV” model 10-50x60mm scope with a 34mm maintube. The new “SV” 10-50 scope is nice, but it costs $1999.99! That’s more than DOUBLE the cost of the 30mm-tube 10-50X SIIIs featured here. Think about it — the older 30mm SIII 10-50X offers way more bang for the buck.

Proceeds from Scope Sales Help Our Shooters’s Forum
When you purchase one of these Sightrons from Amazon, you can improve your long-range capabilities while helping our Shooters’ Forum. For every scope sold, Amazon provides roughly $50.00 to this site. All scope sale commissions will go to provide IT and tech support for our Shooters’ Forum. You don’t pay a penny extra — you pay the same price as any other Amazon customer. But because the sale originated here, Amazon pays a commission. So you can get a great deal, while helping the Forum at the same time.

Editor’s Comments: Here’s our take on this scope. For long-range benchrest and F-Class, it is one of the best options if you can’t swing $2000-$2500 for a Leupold, March, or Nightforce. We’ve used the 10-50X SIII Sightron in competition, and it’s plenty good enough to win matches. The glass is sharp and the clicks are reliable. Anything better (in this class) is going to cost you a LOT more.

Here’s your chance to get a Nightforce NXS, Benchrest, or Competition scope at a big discount. Bullets.com has acquired a large selection of 2013-model Nightforce scopes, and these are now being offered at sale prices. You can save hundreds of dollars on a scope (compared to original retail prices). For example the 5-22x56mm NXS is on sale for $1495.00. This same 2013 optic retails elsewhere for $1830.00 or more. The 2013 15-55x52mm Competition scope is $1840.00. Compare that to $2352.00 for a 2014-edition 15-55 Comp scope.

These special offers are limited to scopes in inventory. When they’re gone, they’re gone. When shopping online, go to the Bullets.com Nightforce Promo Page, and click on a particular model. In the detail page that opens you will see full specifications, including objective size, turret click value, and reticle type. Here are the specific Nightforce scopes on sale at Bullets.com:

Before placing your order with Bullets.com, be sure you are 100% certain about the model you are ordering. Some scopes with the same magnification range come with a choice of either 50mm objective or 56mm objective. Likewise, there are various reticles offered for each basic model, and Nightforce offers 1/4 MOA clicks on some scopes, with 1/8 MOA clicks on others.
