<p><font size="2"><i>REMAGE Project Report by Bill, <a href="https://rifleshooter.com" target="_blank">Rifleshooter.com</a> Editor</i></font><br />
Installing a new barrel on your Remington 700 (especially without a lathe) may seem like a daunting task, but thanks to companies like <a href="https://www.mcgowenbarrel.com/" target="_blank">McGowen Precision Barrels</a> and <a href="https://criterionbarrels.com/product-category/prefits/" target="_blank">Criterion</a>, there are easier alternatives. By adopting a Savage-style barrel nut on a 1 1/16&#8243; thread for a Remington 700 receiver, pre-chambered (aka &#8220;pre-fit&#8221;) barrels can be easily swapped with just a few hand tools. This system is sometimes called a <a href="https://rifleshooter.com/2015/03/rebarrel-a-remington-700-without-a-lathe-mcgowen-remage-barrel-converison/" target="_blank">REMAGE conversion</a> (for &#8220;REMington savAGE&#8221;). With simple tools a &#8220;Pre-fit&#8221; 6mmBR-chambered barrel was installed on the author&#8217;s Remington action &#8212; no machining or lathe-work required.</p>
<p><img src="http://accurateshooter.net/Blog/remage1502.jpg" alt="Remage Savage Remington Rebarrel Rifleshooter.com 6BR 6mmbr" /></p>
<p>Using a few tools from <a href="http://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=ale&amp;ti=6331&amp;pri=0&amp;pw=164303&amp;mi=10077&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brownells.com%2F" target="_blank">Brownells</a>: <a href="http://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=ale&amp;ti=6331&amp;pri=0&amp;pw=164303&amp;mi=10077&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brownells.com%2Fgunsmith-tools-supplies%2Fgeneral-gunsmith-tools%2Fwrenches%2Faction-wrenches-components%2Findex.htm%3Favs%257CMake_3%3DRemington" target="_blank">Remington 700 Action Wrench</a>, <a href="http://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=ale&amp;ti=6331&amp;pri=0&amp;pw=164303&amp;mi=10077&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brownells.com%2Fgunsmith-tools-supplies%2Fgeneral-gunsmith-tools%2Fvises-accessories%2Fbarrel-vises%2Fbarrel-vise-prod17199.aspx" target="_blank">Barrel Vise</a>, <a href="https://www.brownells.com/search/?search=go+gauge" target="_blank">Go and No-Go Gauges</a>, <a href="http://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=ale&amp;ti=6331&amp;pri=0&amp;pw=164303&amp;mi=10077&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brownells.com%2Fgunsmith-tools-supplies%2Frifle-tools%2Fstock-tools%2Fremington-700-f-s-recoil-lug-alignment-tool-prod7653.aspx" target="_blank">Recoil Lug Alignment Tool</a>, and a <a href="https://www.brownells.com/search/?search=savage+barrel+nut" target="_blank">Savage Barrel Nut Wrench</a>, I was able to swap the .308 Winchester barrel off of my Remington 700 short action and install the new McGowen pre-fit, pre-chambered barrel, converting it to a tack-driving 6BR (aka 6mmBR Norma).</p>
<p>The existing barrel is simply removed from the action (normally the hardest part) and the new barrel is screwed on with the Go Gauge in place. After headspace is verified with the Go Gauge, the barrel nut is tightened against the action and you are off to the range. It takes all of the machine work out of the barreling process.</p>
<p>Note: Because barrel nut has a slightly larger diameter, <strong>some stocks may require minor inletting</strong>. Also, if you are shooting fired brass from another rifle with the same chambering, you should FL-size the brass before loading it for your new pre-fit barrel. And always check the set-up with a dummy round loaded to normal cartridge length BEFORE you head to the range. With Pre-Fits, the freebore should be adequate for your cartridge, but always check and adjust your seating depth as needed.</p>

<p>On the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/6.5Creedmoor/" target="_blank">6.5 Creedmoor Facebook page</a> we found an eye-catching Savage <a href="http://www.savagearms.com/content?p=firearms&#038;a=product_summary&#038;s=22637" target="_blank">Model 10 BA Stealth</a>. Rifle owner Derek P. has done some important upgrades, starting with a wicked, spiral-fluted McGowen barrel with red-painted flutes. The red theme was carried over to the chassis which combines fire-engine red with matte black in the middle. The scope rings and even the magazine were painted red to match as well. The whole effect is very striking, as you can see.</p>
<p><img src="https://accurateshooter.net/pix/redsav3.jpg" alt="Savage 10 BA Stealth Red black custom 6.5 Creedmoor"></p>
<p>The barrel is a 29-inch 1:8&#8243;-twist McGowen. The optic is a 4.5-27x56mm Vortex Razor HD GenII with sunshade. That supper-stable rear sandbag is a <a href="https://protektormodel.com/collections/dr-rear-bags" target="_blank">Protektor DR Bag</a>, one of our favorites. The front sandbag is also a Protektor. The front Rest is the new <a href="https://protektormodel.com/collections/frontpage/products/windage-top-aluminum-rest-61" target="_blank">Protektor Aluminum Rest</a> with Mariners Wheel. Look carefully and you&#8217;ll see a flat 2.5&#8243;-wide block on the underside of the forearm. That improves stability and tracking.</p>
<p><img src="https://accurateshooter.net/pix/redsav2.jpg" alt="Savage 10 BA Stealth Red black custom 6.5 Creedmoor"></p>
<p>What we really like is the upgraded <strong>rear buttstock section</strong>. This is NOT standard by any means. Rifle owner Derek has fitted an aftermarket <a href="https://xlrindustries.com/collections/buttstocks" target="_blank">XLR Tactical Lite Buttstock</a> that sits properly in that Protektor DR rear bag. This unit combines an adjustable buttpad with a nice cheek-rest (with upgraded pad from Tactical Works). And, very importantly, the XLR can be fitted with a &#8220;tactical bag rider&#8221; or you can easily make your own bag rider.</p>

<p><font size="2"><i>REMAGE Project Report by Bill, <a href="https://rifleshooter.com" target="_blank">Rifleshooter.com</a> Editor</i></font><br />
Installing a new barrel on your Remington 700 (especially without a lathe) may seem like a daunting task, but thanks to companies like <a href="https://www.mcgowenbarrel.com/" target="_blank">McGowen Precision Barrels</a>, there are easier alternatives.
<p>Using a few tools from <a href="http://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=ale&amp;ti=6331&amp;pri=0&amp;pw=164303&amp;mi=10077&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brownells.com%2F" target="_blank">Brownells</a>: <a href="http://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=ale&amp;ti=6331&amp;pri=0&amp;pw=164303&amp;mi=10077&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brownells.com%2Fgunsmith-tools-supplies%2Fgeneral-gunsmith-tools%2Fwrenches%2Faction-wrenches-components%2Findex.htm%3Favs%257CMake_3%3DRemington" target="_blank">Remington 700 Action Wrench</a>, <a href="http://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=ale&amp;ti=6331&amp;pri=0&amp;pw=164303&amp;mi=10077&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brownells.com%2Fgunsmith-tools-supplies%2Fgeneral-gunsmith-tools%2Fvises-accessories%2Fbarrel-vises%2Fbarrel-vise-prod17199.aspx" target="_blank">Barrel Vise</a>, <a href="http://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=ale&amp;ti=6331&amp;pri=0&amp;pw=164303&amp;mi=10077&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brownells.com%2Fgunsmith-tools-supplies%2Fmeasuring-tools%2Fheadspace-gauges%2Frimless-rifle-shotgun-cartridge-headspace-gauges-prod25179.aspx" target="_blank">Go and No-Go Gauges</a>, <a href="http://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=ale&amp;ti=6331&amp;pri=0&amp;pw=164303&amp;mi=10077&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brownells.com%2Fgunsmith-tools-supplies%2Frifle-tools%2Fstock-tools%2Fremington-700-f-s-recoil-lug-alignment-tool-prod7653.aspx" target="_blank">Recoil Lug Alignment Tool</a>, and a <a href="http://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=ale&amp;ti=6331&amp;pri=0&amp;pw=164303&amp;mi=10077&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brownells.com%2Fgunsmith-tools-supplies%2Fbarrel-blanks-tools%2Frebarreling-tools%2Fbarrel-nut-tools%2Fsavage-barrel-nut-wrench-prod7388.aspx" target="_blank">Savage Barrel Nut Wrench</a>, I was able to swap the .308 Winchester barrel off of my <a href="http://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=ale&amp;ti=6331&amp;pri=0&amp;pw=164303&amp;mi=10077&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brownells.com%2Frifle-parts%2Freceiver-parts%2Freceivers%2Frifle-receivers%2F700-short-action-receivers-prod75065.aspx" target="_blank">Remington 700 short action</a> and install the new McGowen pre-fit, pre-chambered barrel, converting it to a tack-driving 6BR (aka 6mmBR Norma).</p>
<p>Note: Because barrel nut has a slightly larger diameter, some stocks may require minor inletting.

<p><a href="http://www.grafs.com/catalog/product/productId/5985" target="_blank"><img src="http://accurateshooter.net/Blog/dealweek101203.jpg" alt="AccurateShooter Deals Week Grafs.com Hornady Reloading Classic press kit" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>On sale this week at <a href="http://www.grafs.com/catalog/product/productId/5985" target="_blank">Grafs.com</a>, this <a href="http://www.mrgundealer.com/product.savage-a17-rifle-47001-46" target="_blank">Hornady Reloading Kit</a> comes with everything you need to turn out accurate handloads: Lock-N-Load single stage press, L-N-L Powder Measure, Digital Scale, Rotary Powder Measure, Powder Trickler, 7th Ed. <h2>4. Mr. Gun Dealer &#8212; Savage A17 Rifle (17 HMR)</h2>
<p><a href="http://www.mrgundealer.com/product.savage-a17-rifle-47001-46" target="_blank"><img src="http://accurateshooter.net/Blog/dealweek101204op.png" alt="AccurateShooter Deals Week Grafs.com Hornady Reloading Classic press kit" border="0" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://www.mrgundealer.com/product.savage-a17-rifle-47001-46" target="_blank">Savage&#8217;s new A17</a>, chambered for the 17 HMR cartridge, is accurate and tons of fun. The model we tested was 100% reliable and ran like a sewing machine. Some of the early production models need a little attention to the trigger (and some fluff &#8216;n buff) &#8212; but nothing major. We think this is the most significant semi-auto rimfire of the decade. And now you can snag one for under $365.00!</p>
<h2>5. Amazon.com &#8211; 8x30mm Military Marine Binoculars, $239.99</h2>
<p><a href="http://amzn.to/1VCY4gi" target="_blank"><img src="http://accurateshooter.net/Blog/dealweek101202.jpg" alt="AccurateShooter Deals Week Amazon.com Steiner Military Marine Binoculars" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>Your editor has used <a href="http://amzn.to/1VCY4gi" target="_blank">Steiner Military Marine Binoculars</a> on many ground squirrel and prairie dog adventures. What I really like about these Steiners is that you don&#8217;t have to fiddle around with the focus. Once you set the eyepieces correctly, everything from about 25 yards to infinity is in focus. Honest. That&#8217;s great when you&#8217;re glassing a P-Dog field all day long. The armor is also very tough. Downside? Well with 30mm objectives, the Steiners can&#8217;t possibly match the low-light performance of true high-end ($1500+) binoculars. But then the Steiners cost a mere $239.99.</p>
<h2>6. PrecisionReloading.com &#8211; MTM Range Box</h2>
<p><a href="https://www.precisionreloading.com/cart.php#!pp=60&amp;l=MT&amp;i=RBMC30" target="_blank"><img src="http://accurateshooter.net/Blog/dealweek101206.jpg" alt="AccurateShooter Deals Week Grafs.com MTM Shooting Range Kit Cleaning Box Cradles" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>This versatile <a href="https://www.precisionreloading.com/cart.php#!pp=60&amp;l=MT&amp;i=RBMC30" target="_blank">MTM Shooting Range Box</a> is on sale for just $28.69 at <a href="https://www.precisionreloading.com/" target="_blank">PrecisionReloading.com</a>. It sells elsewhere for $42-$50. This box has a removable top section with small compartments for jags, patches, and small parts. Snap-in cradles provide a secure support for cleaning your rifle. NOTE: The MTM Range Box on sale is RED (though the photo also shows a green box).</p>
<h2>7. EABCO.com &#8211; AR-15 Stripped Lower (Anderson Mfg.)</h2>
<p><a href="http://www.eabco.net/anderson-mfg-stripped-ar15-lower_p_14682.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://accurateshooter.net/Blog/dealweek101207.jpg" alt="AccurateShooter Deals Week Grafs.com MTM Shooting Range Kit Cleaning Box Cradles" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>The <a href="http://www.eabco.net/anderson-mfg-stripped-ar15-lower_p_14682.html" target="_blank">Anderson Mfg. Stripped AR-15 Lower</a> is just $49.00 now at <a href="http://www.eabco.com/" target="_blank">Eabco.com</a>. These lowers are inexpensive, but the appearance is clean, dimensions are correct, and Eabco.com stands behind them. Put the money you save on the lower into a better barrel. <a href="https://youtu.be/nsrfCey2uXU" target="_blank">Video Review of Anderson Stripped Lower</a>.</p>
