Here’s a clever new product that will be appreciated by PRS/NRL shooters and some hunters. American Defense Manufacturing (ADM) has crafted a scope ring upper unit that includes a Picatinny rail on the top of the front ring. That allows you to mount various devices above your scope, such as a compact laser rangefinder. This is currently offered in a 34mm version, but will be offered in 30mm version “in a few weeks”. This unit only works with ADM scope mounts. However, Nightforce has a similar Rail Accessory Platform (RAP-i) that works with NF 30mm or 34mm rings. The innovative ADM ring cap unit, officially dubbed the AD-Delta Scope Mount Ring Cap-Picatinny Rail, costs $120.00.

The 5-Lug (Low-Red Dot) version can be used to mount a Red Dot or low profile laser sight. The 5-Lug (Low-Red Dot) version can be used to mount a Red Dot or low-profile laser sight. The 7-Lug (Tall-Laser Rangefinder) can be used for laser rangefinders such as the Vortex Impact 4000. The 7-Lug Version is currently available in 34mm, the 30mm version will be available in the near future. The ADM Ring Cap product includes 1 replacement ring cap and 4 mounting screws.”

NOTE: This ring cap WILL ONLY fit ADM Delta Series Mounts, it is NOT compatible with other manufacturers’ scope mounts. Also ADM cannot guarantee height compatibility with all optics as turret heights vary between different makes and models. Price is $120.00 for all versions.

The brand new Ruger Precision Rimfire could become one of 2018’s most popular rifles, if the success of its “big brother”, the centerfire Ruger Precision Rifle, is any indicator. This .22 LR rig offers a turn-key rimfire solution for tactical shooters, PRS competitors, and anyone who likes modular rifles. The Ruger Precision Rimfire rifle offers adjustable cheekpiece and length of pull, AR-style grip, free-floating M-Lok fore-end, and a 18″ barrel (1:16″ twist) that is pre-threaded for brakes or suppressor. You get all this for about $400.00 street price (MSRP is $529.00).

The Ruger Precision Rimfire .22 LR rifle is so new that no vendor has one in inventory yet. But you CAN pre-order one now for $399.99 from Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore (MSRP: $529.00). For PRS shooters and Ruger Precision Rifle owners, this may be an ideal rimfire cross-trainer, with ergonomics and balance like their centerfire rig. This PRS-style .22 LR rig has some very interesting features, including adjustable bolt throw that lets shooters change from a rimfire 1.5″ bolt throw to a short-action centerfire 3″ bolt throw, reducing the chance of short-stroking your bolt in competition. The Ruger Marksman trigger adjusts from 2.25 to 5.0 pounds.

Pros and Cons of Ruger Precision Rimfire
We are curious to see how well the new Ruger Precision Rimfire actually shoots. We should be able to test this rig at SHOT Show Media Day at the Range January 22, 2018. Hopefully it can deliver 1″ (or better) groups at 50 yards with good .22 LR ammo.

Pros: If you are shooting offhand, or from barricades, this kind of modular stock makes sense. This rifle also gives Ruger Precision Rifle Owners a nice option for low-cost rimfire cross-training. We like the adjustable trigger. Ease of barrel swapping is a good feature. The fact that you can use Ruger 10/22 mags is a big plus. The adjustable bolt throw, if it’s 100% reliable, is a good idea for cross-training.

Cons: To be honest, we don’t like this kind of stock for shooting from the bench or shooting from prone with a normal V-top rear sandbag. We’d prefer a more conventional stock with a flat fore-end and a straight, smooth toe on the buttstock (not a Pic rail on the underside). The barrel attachment system may, initially, limit aftermarket “drop-in” barrel options.

Description of New Ruger Precision Rimfire Rifle
Molded, one-piece chassis and adjustable buttstock assembly are manufactured with glass-filled nylon.

Adjustable buttstock features a flat Picatinny bag rider that will accep a rear monopod.

Quick-Fit adjustable Precision Rimfire stock with adjustable length of pull and adjustable comb.

Big-Gun bolt throw adjustment enables shooters to change from a rimfire 1.5-inch bolt throw to a short-action centerfire 3-inch bolt throw, reducing the chance of short-stroking bolt in competition.

Ruger Marksman Adjustable™ trigger has a pull weight range of 2.25 to 5.0 pounds; adjusting wrench is stored in a buttstock compartment.

Ruger’s own AR-Pattern pistol grip and safety selector incorporates an extended reach for maximum control and access to the 45°, reversible safety selector. May be configured with most AR-style grips and selectors.

Angled Picatinny scope base with +30 MOA elevation for enhanced long-range capabilities.

Oversized bolt handle for positive bolt manipulation (same as centerfire Ruger Precision Rifle).

Anodizeed Aluminum 15″ free-float handguard with Magpul® M-LOK® slots on all four sides.
