Created by Top Shot host Colby Donaldson and his brother Reid Donaldson, Texas Triggers is a “theme park” for shooters. Over the course of a 3-day ranch stay, you can sample a wide variety of weapons, including exotic military arms such as a full-auto M2 Browning Machine Gun, an M60, a Barrett m107 50-Cal, select fire AR-platform rifles, and even M79 grenade launchers. In addition, you can shoot a host of different handguns and shotguns in Top Shot-style challenges with a variety of reactive targets from 10m to 1000 yards. There will also be a selection of historic arms, such as Winchester lever guns, single action revolvers, and black powder rifles.

At Texas Triggers, paying participants get to shoot a vast arsenal of weapons, including guns that most people could never afford. And, if you live in a jurisdiction where select-fire weapons are not legal, Texas Triggers gives you the chance to taste the “forbidden fruit”. All that participants need to bring is their enthusiasm (and a checkbook). Texas Triggers supplies all the guns and ammo, along with on-site bunkhouse-style facilities. What does it all cost? Texas Triggers has not announced prices, but you can email email inquiries to: info [at] texastriggers.com. NOTE: The official www.texastriggers.com website is not yet ready, but should “go live” within a few weeks.

Visitors to Texas Triggers won’t be limited to punching paper. To make the experience more exciting, Texas Triggers has invested heavily in reactive targets, including automated LaRue rifle silhouettes, dueling trees, re-settable steel plate arrays, and arcade-style target bays. There is even an elevated zipline like you’ve seen on the Top Shot TV show. This is very much a “Shooters’ Disneyland” that can provide a once-in-a-lifetime firearms experience. Colby Donaldson says: “Texas Triggers is THE ultimate shooting experience. It’s an adventure. It’s the exclusive opportunity to come down to the ranch for three days and train with the world’s top marksmen, using the most impressive weapons ever produced.”

The Cawthon Cartridge Club (Millican, TX) hosts the 2010 LaRue Tactical Multi-Gun Match this weekend, May 8-9. More than 220 shooters will compete in eight (8) stages of fire using pistol, rifle, and shotgun. This is action shooting, with lots of movement. Shooters negotiate obstacles, run to firing positions, and engage targets from multiple positions, often firing through ports or around barricades. Targets are placed at distances from a few yards (pistol) to 500 yards (rifle).

With stage names such as “House of Pain,” “Jungle Run,” and “Tunnel Rat,” this match will challenge the competitors’ shooting skills and physical abilities. With temperatures predicted to reach the 90s, competitors must battle the heat and the sometimes high winds as they run through stages and take long shots with their rifles. Pre-match favorites include Taran Butler, Kelly Neal, and Bennie Cooley, but there are many lesser-known shooters who could end up on the podium.

The video below shows Stage 8 from the 2009 LaRue 3-Gun Match, held at the Tiger Valley Tactical Institute range near Waco, TX.

Texas Governor Rick Perry, a fifth-generation Texan, is a “gun guy” as well as an extremely effective and popular politician. The Republican governor is a USAF veteran, and a strong believer in gun rights and the Second Amendment. As the Chief Executive of the nation’s second biggest state, Perry has demonstrated that fiscal conservatism works — he said “no” to increased taxes, cut government spending and produced a balanced budget with a $9 Billion “Rainy Day Fund”. He did this while California accumulated a $20 Billion deficit. Maybe California needs fewer liberal legislators and more tough conservatives like Perry.

During his tenure, Governor Perry lead Texas out of a $10 billion budget deficit in 2003 by cutting government spending. He is the only Texas governor since World War II to sign budgets that reduced general revenue spending. In addition, he used his line item veto to scrub more than $3 billion in state spending, while encouraging investments in the economy, education and security.

Gov. Perry Visits LaRue Tactical
Recently Gov. Perry visited the Larue Tactical Center in Leander, Texas. The Governor tried a variety of firearms, including a .223 AR carbine (photo above) and the LaRue-built OBR (Optimized Battle Rifle) chambered in 7.62×51. Below, Governor Perry shows good form shooting the OBR from prone with bipod. We wonder how many other Governors have recently shot sub-MOA with a suppressed semi-automatic rifle?

After graduating from Texas A&M University, Rick Perry was commissioned in the United States Air Force, completed pilot training and flew C-130 tactical airlift in the United States, the Middle East, and Europe until 1977. He left the Air Force with the rank of captain, returned to Texas and went into business farming cotton with his father.

Elected Lieutenant Governor of Texas in 1998, Perry assumed office as governor in December 2000 when Governor George W. Bush resigned before his inauguration as President of the United States. Perry was elected to two full terms in 2002 and 2006 and plans to run for a third term in 2010.
