The March 2023 issue of Shooting Industry Magazine was just released. This special 5th Annual Woman’s Edition focuses primarily on lady shooters and gun owners. There are some very interesting articles about products for women and increased female participation in the shooting sports. CLICK HERE to access the full March 2023 issue for FREE.
Women have become increasingly important in the shooting sports world. The NSSF notes that nearly 5 million Americans purchased a firearm for the very first time in 2020, and of that figure, 40% were women! If trends continue, nearly half of all gun sales will be to women. And the age span for lady shooters is significant — in Shoot Like A Girl’s Annual Report, of their 3,457 guests who participated in 2022, 67% were over 40 years old, and 17% were over 60 years old.
Gun shop owner and instructor Ava Flandell states: “In my experience, female-taught classes fill up much quicker than those taught by men, especially when it comes to entry-level classes.”
CLICK HERE for the four March 2023 Shooting Industry lead stories about women and the firearms trade. And CLICK HERE for dozens of other articles about firearms Products for Women.
In this NSSF video, Kay Miculek and Babes with Bullets camp director Deb Ferns explain eye dominance. First they explain how to identify one’s dominant eye. Then Kay — a cross-dominant-eye target shooter — explains how cross-dominant individuals can maintain a proper sight picture.
One notable female-centric shooting organization is A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG&AG). This year’s major AG&AG event will be held April 27-30, 2023 in Grand Junction, Colorado. There will be workshops, live-fire training, fun matches, and other active.

MDT XRS CZ 455 Chassis
The MDT XRS CZ 455 chassis is a PRS-style chassis for the popular CZ 455 rimfire rig. Each XRS chassis is constructed from a full-length CNC machined core of 6061 aircraft grade aluminum with high-strength textured polymer surface panels. The chassis employs a precision aluminum V-block bedding system that fits the CZ action well. This chassis can be enhanced with other MDR accessories, including MDT XRS weight-compatible fore-end, enclosed fore-end, and MDT XRS TIMBR kit. The XRS chassis features a detachable grip system, with both an angled grip and a vertical grip included.
Savage Impulse Mountain Hunter Straight-Pull Light Rifle

The new EAA MC P35 OPS pistol features an EAA FAR-DOT red dot rear sight (factory installed), fiber-optic front sight, G10 grips, extended beavertail, straight trigger, beveled mag well, plus a integrated accessory rail. The red dot is directly mounted to the pistol and does not require an adaptor plate. The pistol is compatible with various Holosun optics.
Mantis BlackbeardX Training System
The Mantis BlackbeardX system combines the MantisX and Mantis Blackbeard training products. BlackbeardX goes beyond a shot timer — it includes motion-based analysis of the user’s efficiency in a high-speed, multi-target engagement. It analyzes the user’s economy of motion across multiple dimensions, giving real-time feedback on where and how they can improve. BlackbeardX connects to the existing MantisX App via Bluetooth. This Blackbeard X system offers a new capability called “dynamic shooting analysis”.
NEW Kiger-9C from Anderson Manufacturing
The Kiger-9c is the first-ever handgun produced by Anderson Manufacturing. This 15+1 striker-fired pistol features a modern-designed polymer frame, with over-molded front and rear slide rails. The new Kiger-9c is compatible with most GLOCK 19 Gen3 aftermarket components.
Hornady 7mm PRC Factory Ammunition
The 7mm PRC (Precision Rifle Cartridge) is becoming popular with hunters and long-range shooters. Hornady says the 7mm PRC “provides accuracy, consistency and long-range performance by delivering long, heavy-for-caliber bullets in a standard long action”. Hornady loads 7mm PRC amo with temp-stable, Magnum-speed propellants for consistent velocity and longer barrel life. Hornady 7mm PRC ammunition is offered in these types: Outfitter, 160gr CX bullet; Match, 180gr ELD Match bullet; and Precision Hunter, 175gr ELD-X bullet. A variety of reloading accessories and components are also available for the 7mm PRC.

One of the feature stories covers the increased popularity of “optics-ready” handguns. These come with slides configured to mount Red Dot optics. In some cases these new handguns are sold with the Red Dot optics pre-installed, ready to go. The Shooting Industry article explains:
“It wasn’t too long ago optics-ready handguns were little more than a novelty. But today, it’s difficult to talk about the handgun segment without delving into the increasing number of guns coming from the manufacturers with optics already installed, or ready to accept one.”
Mike Sfakianos, a senior manager at Bill Jackson’s in Pinellas Park, Florida, remembers customers coming into the store even three or four years ago and being skeptical about the utility of a Red Dot on a pistol:
“It was a slow start. People thought it was more of a competition-type thing. Now it seems like just about every manufacturer has gone to an optics-ready gun”, observed Sfakianos, noting customers are growing increasingly interested in carrying subcompacts with Red Dot optics.
If you are interested in a wide selection of optics-ready handguns, check out the recent Modern Carry: Best Optics-Ready Pistols article in the CheaperThanDirt Blog. This highlights ten current production pistols from Canik, CZ, FN, Hechler & Koch, Keltec, SCCY, SIG Sauer, Smith & Wesson, Springfield Armory, and Taurus. Below is the Taurus G3 T.O.R.O (Taurus Optic Ready Option), a full-frame pistol with 17+1 9mm capacity.
Gun Safes — Why Every Gun Owner Needs One
A second article in this month’s Shooting Industry magazine covers gun safes and security systems. This covers recent trends in gun safe design, marketing, and sale. The article notes that attacks on gun ownership and Second Amendment rights are increasing so it is more important than every for gun owners to have secure storage for their firearms both at home and in their vehicles. FYI, gun thefts from vehicles make up the largest source of stolen guns.
Based in Charlotte, NC, Hyatt Guns stocks over 7,000 guns in a vast 20,000 square-foot facility. To complement its massive firearms inventory, Hyatt Guns maintains the largest safe showroom in the region.
Cutting Edge Digital Gunsafe Technology — There Are Potential Problems
Hyatt Guns offers a range of mechanical and electronic gun storage options, though Hyatt Guns stays away from hyper-technology because it’s often expensive and difficult to service. V.P. Mitch Hyatt notes: “The mechanical dials and simple digital safes have great failsafe options. We can help customers set these up, and we work with several local locksmiths if they ever need one. But, with the larger vault safes, when you get into the fingerprint technology, often times it leads to replacing the whole unit, and you have to deal with whether the manufacturer will take it back or replace it.”
