New 6mm Creedmoor Cartridge Brass from Lapua
In the PRS game, the 6.5 Creedmoor has ruled the roost. However more and more serious competitors are moving to the 6mm Creedmoor cartridge because it offers lower recoil and a flatter trajectory (with some bullets). If you are a fan of the 6mm Creedmoor — take heart. Lapua has started production of 6mm Creedmoor cartridge brass, which should hit American shores later in the year. Yes this 6mm Creedmoor brass has small primer pocket and small flash hole — allowing it to stand up to repeated loading cycles with stout pressures.
Here is the official announcement…
Lapua 6mm Creedmoor Cartridge Brass
Lapua is pleased to announce the new 6mm Creedmoor case, a necked down version of the extremely popular 6.5mm Creedmoor designed to produce higher velocities, flatter trajectories, and reduced recoil.
Customer demand for a 6mm version followed almost immediately after the release of the original Creedmoor case. Aside from the neck dimensions, our new 6mm Creedmoor cases shares the same features and characteristics that make Lapua the standard for 6.5 Creedmoor brass. It is a beautifully-drawn case, properly annealed at the neck and shoulder, with head metallurgy specifically chosen for durability, and the same small rifle primer, small flash-hole design that delivers the ultimate accuracy edge. The smaller 6mm bore diameter offers an excellent selection of proven low-drag match bullets that offer outstanding long range performance with even less recoil.
While the original 6.5 Creedmoor was designed with NRA High Power competition in mind, other disciplines, including the Precision Rifle Series (PRS), were quick to see the positive attributes of this cartridge. We know Lapua’s latest offering will find a niche with discerning shooters in demanding competitive disciplines.
We expect Lapua’s new 6mm Creedmoor cartridge brass to be favored by High Power shooters and serious varminters as well as tactical competitors. The Lapua 6mm Creedmoor cases will be available in the USA later in 2018.
The new Lapua 6mm Creedmoor Brass will definitely be a hit with PRS Competitors…

Where is the 6×47 we were promised more then 3 years ago?
Editor I would also add that the 6×47 and the 6XC are the dominant wining 6mm cartridges in PRS and not the 6mm CM. Lets not fall to fake news status.
Editor: Not sure about your information… But that may change with the introduction of Lapua 6mm Creedmoor brass. We did NOT say 6XC shooters would shift. We suggested that current 6.5 Creedmoor shooters might move down in caliber.

This is a clear indiction that Creedmoor has won the marketing war and will become the 6.5 (and 6mm) wunderkind; based on sheer volume and therefore lower costs.
I suspect, in 5 years time, this site will be running the retrospective articles of “What ever happened to the 6.5 x 47 Lapua case?”.
The Creedmoor is more accurate than the x47 and xc. Makes sense.
This is very good news. Thanks
284 and 300 WSM Lapua brass that’s what I want to see. Although this is a step in the right direction.
I will stick with the 6x47L . I don’t understand the uproar about the Creedmoor 6 or 6.5. Low recoil, is that really it? I shoot a 6.5/284 for a hunting round and don’t find the recoil objectionable.
I do not understand offering something that can already be had elsewhere, without first bringing the 6×47 Lapua to the table.
While factory ammunition has never been prevalent for the Lapua round, it is without a doubt the better of the two in any neck diameter and has the records to prove it.
Every body is so caught up in the 6.5 creedmore that they have never heard of the real 6.5 it blows the creedmore away Remington arms made it in the mid 60s it is around 4200 fps and can kill a elk at 1000 yards with no problem. I know because I did it on several occasions. It is a 6.5 Remington mag .Now talk about the creedmore it isn’t in the 6.5mag class it is a play toy for people who are scared of real power
The 6.5 Creedmoor evolved when the Hornady and Creedmoor groups stayed next to each other at Camp Perry. The 6XC was out and Dennis Demille showed it to Dave Emory.
The reason the 6mm Creedmoor is such a late bloomer is that it is all but a direct copy the Norma 6XC.
Kinda like someone who copied of your paper in school..
I’m waiting for 6×47 brass with a large primer.
I made my own from 6XC brass and the velocity in the winter time was far more consistant than the Lapua small primer brass in cold temperatures.
Hot summer temps may be another story but in cold weather the large primer in my testing was the clear favorite.
Even in the summer I found the large primer brass gave the most consistent velocities so I stuck with it all year.
I’m sure there are guys out there who will dispute this but thats how it rolled in my testing.
I should add that I was running 4350 with 115 DTACs
