Building a Great Varmint Rifle — Superb Video Shows Process
Here’s a great YouTube video that shows the creation of a high-end, 22-250 varmint rifle from start to finish. The rifle was crafted by Chad Dixon for O’Neill Ops. Once the build is complete, the video shows the rifle being tested at 440 yards. With the camera filming through the scope, you can even watch the trace, starting at the 2:36″ time mark (this is very cool).

Any person with an interest in gunsmithing should watch this video. It shows barrel profiling, tenon-thread cutting, chambering, CNC stock inletting, bedding, and stock painting. This is one of the best short videos of its kind on YouTube.

Slick video! Now how does it shoot?
If you know anything about Chad’s capabilities and craftsmanship, you can bet this gun will shoot!
I do, and I have no doubt that it does. It is just that I like to see targets. Obviously, his workmanship is superb, and the means by which he accomplishes it exceptional.
Late to the discussion… anyone can post pics of a group, my job is to film it… this platform performs with much more precision, than I am capable of… I can post pics of a .5″ group @ 100yds off of a bipod, or I could take a still shot of the 1/2 life sized coyote I was shooting at in the end of this video from 440yds, while printing 2″ groups off my stock pack… BUT the true targets I post, are the kills on film, not groups on paper.
Chad is a good dude, as well as a very competent smith with very fair pricing and great turn around. Only regret I have with LRI is finding them late in the game, wish I found them earlier in my shooting adventures. My last 260 came out perfect. A very happy camper and shooter.
Cool video and thanks for your service. Do these rifles come with accuracy guarantee?
Chad is something rare. He’s a friend of mine although Ive never met him. He was always a great source of information while I was setting up. Most people always have an icon whenever they take an interest in something, whether it be a sport, a hobby, a profession or whatever. For anyone thinking about this line of work whether its a hobby or business then Chad Dixon should be your Icon. Incredible perfectionist is this man. Happy new year Chad.
