A new report from a voter registration group demonstrates the big impact hunters, recreational shooters, and other American gun owners could have on federal, state, and local elections if they register to vote and then vote in the upcoming November election. The Second Amendment community needs to make sure that the 22.3 million new first-time gun owners since 2020 are registered to vote and then vote this November. NSSF’s #GUNVOTE initiative was created to do just that and according to the newly released survey data from Vote4America, the outcome of the upcoming November presidential election could be determined by Second Amendment supporters.
The key objective should be to increase voter registration numbers for firearms owners, and encourage them to vote this November. According to the Vote4America survey, large numbers of gun owners and hunters in critical swing states are NOT registered to vote. Nationwide, an estimated 10 million gun owners and hunters are NOT registered. In a breakdown by state, the data shows unregistered hunting and Second Amendment supporters total at least 515,277 in Pennsylvania. That number is closer to around 370,000 each in Michigan and North Carolina. In addition, Georgia, Wisconsin, Missouri and Virginia “all have more than half a million hunters and gun owners unregistered,” and in Arizona that number totals approximately 133,000.
In a District of Conservation podcast, Vote4America adviser Baker Leavitt said, “If we could convert 2% of all licensed hunters and get them to vote, [the] GOP would win in a landslide.”
INFO on Registering to Vote, Voting Process, and Polling Places
The GunVote.org website has links to official state websites where more details about registering to vote, early voting protocols, and the entire process can be found. For those who wait until election day to cast their ballot, GunVote.org also has comprehensive lists of polling place locations where citizens can vote in their city/state.
Second Amendment rights and the rights of hunters and recreational target shooters are on the ballot every election. If you have a friend or loved one who loves hunting and recreational shooting sports, do your part and make sure they register to vote and then vote in November. If they have questions about how to register, send them to GunVote.org.
Good news for shooters — electronic targets will be used at the CMP National Matches at Camp Perry this year. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) has announced that, for the first time, ALL the National Mid-Range and Long Range events will be fired on outdoor electronic targets! The Mid-Range and Long Range matches, scheduled for August 5-10, 2024, are part of the annual National Matches at Camp Perry, situated near Port Clinton, Ohio.
The electronic target system provides monitors at each firing point that instantly display accurate shot scores — this helps competitors quickly assess their shot placement and wind corrections. The use of the targets also eliminates the need for pit duty. That significantly lessens the duration of each match, so shooters can spend less time in the hot summer sun.
In this video, CMP Highpower Manager, Brian Williams demonstrates the accuracy of the KTS electronic targets and explains how the system works.
The Long Range series features 10 individual and team events on Camp Perry’s 1,000-yard Viale Range as well as a Mid-Range Match, fired at 600 yards. Only 50 targets will be assembled, meaning the Mid-Range Match will likely sell out — so competitors should sign up as soon as possible. CMP’s National Long Range matches include Match Rifle, Service Rifle, Palma, F-Open, F T/R or AR Tactical categories. The events are open to adult and junior competitors, regardless of experience level. CLICK HERE to learn more the National Mid-Range and Long Range Matches.
After successfully field testing the electronic target line for Long Range matches at two spring events, the CMP made the decision to utilize the technology at this year’s Nationals. Sara Rozanski, CMP’s Highpower Rifle Coordinator, reports: “Using the targets for Long Range at our Eastern Games in North Carolina in May and again at Camp Perry for a test match in June really encouraged us to make them available for competitors at the National Matches. We received a lot of positive feedback, and we hope bringing the technology to Camp Perry will … enhance the experience of the National Matches for those who attend our Long Range events.”
The CMP 2024 National Matches (for all divisions — pistol, rimfire, centerfire) run July 11 through August 10, 2024. Find registration links and other info on the CMP website at Thecmp.org/cmp-national-matches.
The premier Multi-Gun event in the USA kicks off this week in Minnesota. What type of handguns, holsters, and gear do female shooters prefer? That question was answered by a survey of lady shooters at SHINE 2024, the Annual Conference of the “A Girl & A Gun” organization. The SHINE 2024 event took place this past May at the Cameo Shooting and Education Complex near Grand Junction, Colorado. The 706 lady attendees ranged in age from 17 to 78 and hailed from 45 different states. The 700+ lady shooters included both novices and seasoned shooters — 28% of the attendees were relatively new shooters, 41% were intermediates, and 31% were advanced. The annual event sold out last September and had more than 500 women on the waiting list.
All the participants were required to go through a ‘Gear Check’ process where their handguns, belts, holsters, and mag pouches were all reviewed and function checked. In total, the 706 women brought 976 handguns for training. For today’s article, we reveal the favored handguns, holsters, sights/optics, and other accessories. Glock was the #1 gun choice with 22.75% with Walther a close second at 20.29%. CLICK HERE for complete gun/product survey results.

Today, July 4th, we are celebrating a special birthday — the launching of a new nation that would become the world’s greatest exemplar of freedom and democracy. In our modern world, it is easy to lose sight of the challenges that faced our fore-fathers, and the continuing burdens we all share, as Americans, to maintain the struggle for freedom, both at home and abroad. It is more important than ever that we remember the ideals on which the nation was founded, and remember that our nation became great through the efforts and talents of a free citizenry, not through an all-powerful central government.
In the Beginning — Overcoming Great Odds
In a July 4th speech, Navy Lt. Ellen Connors wrote: “Our nation declared its independence in order for our families to live free –- not just for one generation but for future generations. And what odds [the founding fathers] faced. It must have seemed impossible. Our forefathers went up against the world’s most colossal empire since ancient Rome. No colony had ever successfully left a mother country to set up a self-governing state.”
The Price of Freedom… The Pride of A Nation
Here is a selection from Daniel Webster’s July 4th, 1851 Oration. His words ring true even now:
On the 4th of July, 1776, the assembled Representatives of the United States of America in Congress declared that these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, FREE and INDEPENDENT States. This Declaration, made by most patriotic and resolute men, trusting in the justice of their cause and the protection of Heaven, and yet made not without deep solicitude and anxiety, has now stood for seventy-five years, and still stands. It was sealed in blood. It has met dangers, and overcome them; it has had enemies, and conquered them; it has had detractors, and abashed them all….
Every mans’ heart swells within him… as he remembers that seventy-five years have rolled away, and that the great inheritance of liberty is still his — his, undiminished and unimpaired, his in all its original glory; his to enjoy; his to protect; and his to transmit to future generations.
One of the biggest Precision Rifle matches of the year took place recently. Nearly 200 shooters from many states competed in the 2024 Hornady Precision Rifle Challenge, held June 28-29, 2024 at Hornady’s private 250,000 acre ranch property outside of Evanston, Wyoming, across the state line in Utah. The match featured 19 challenging stages. Course of fire consisted of 200 rounds with “off trail” walking between stages. Natural terrain made for an exciting match.
George Gardner and Bryan Sikes of GA Precision were co-match directors. Gardner said the 2024 event went well: “The 2024 Hornady PRC was a huge success. The challenging course of fire coupled with the perfect weather for a precision rifle match made for an awesome weekend.” Sikes added: “We want to congratulate all the winners and thank each competitor for attending. A big thank you for all the range officers and sponsors that made this match happen, as well.” Open Division Competitor Andrew Slade was the Overall Match winner. Hornady congratulates the following Division and Class winners:
Open Division and Overall winner: Andrew Slade
Top Production: Doug Koenig
Top Tactical: Joe Thielen
Top Gas Gun: River Curtis
Top Senior: Joe McFarlane
Top Mil/LE: Kahl Harmon
Top Lady: Lauryl Akenhead
Top Junior: Reese Broughton
Top Amateur: Robert Mahaffey
Top Marksman: Austin Clark
Top Semi-Pro: Justin Eggers
Top International: Moritz Mayr
One of the biggest PRS matches of the year, the Hornady Precision Rifle Challenge is a unique long range competition with tough terrain and major elevation changes. This wasn’t a typical PRS Pro Series match by any means. Participants in this challenging Precision Rifle match encounter challenging conditions not typically seen in other tactical matches.
This video, from the 2023 PRC event, is well worth watching. It provides plenty of equipment closeups, shows stage set-ups, and includes “birds-eye-view” drone footage of the scenic range.

Camdyn Powers won the Ladies Division at the 2024 National Rimfire League (NRL22) Championships held June 21-23, 2024 in Frederic, Wisconsin. Along with winning the Ladies Division Title, Camdyn secured an impressive 7th place overall finish. Camdyn said the match was tough: “This match pushed my mental and physical abilities, but I managed to navigate the challenges and make wind adjustments effectively on the clock. It was my best two-day match performance with achieving a 95% hit percentage of the top shooter.” She noted that her Lapua rimfire ammo was accurate and reliable.
With this major 2024 title, Camdyn has secured her status as the top woman in NRL22 competition — in 2023 she was the 2023 NRL22 Ladies Division Season Champion, as well as the 2023 Ladies Match Winner.
Powers competes with a Vudoo V22 bolt-action rifle with a 20″ MTU-V contour Bartlein barrel in an XLR Envy Pro Chassis. On top is a Burris XTR Pro 5.5-30X FFP competition scope, with illuminated reticle. Camdyn’s sponsors include Lapua (ammunition), Burris Optics, Vudoo Gun Works, and WieBad Gear Bags.
Camdyn praised her Burris XTR Pro competition scope: “With my XTR PRO, I could see the target clearly and bullet trace for accurate adjustments that led to impacts.” Burris Optics Marketing Director Jordan Egli stated: “We are incredibly proud of Camdyn Powers and her outstanding success at the NRL22 Championship. Her victory is a testament to her hard work and determination[.]”
About NRL22 Rimfire Competition
The National Rifle League (NRL) started off sponsoring major centerfire tactical matches, similar to PRS competitions. The NRL then added a .22 LR Rimfire series, called NRL22, which is now the premier precision rimfire league in the country. The NRL22 rimfire discipline has been a huge success, as rimfire guns are fun to shoot and ammo is very affordable. NRL22 is now the most active type of NRL competition by far, with a vast selection of matches around the country. Popular NRL22 matches have drawn up to 170 rimfire competitors. Divisions may include: Open, Base, Ladies, Air Rifle, Old Guns, and Young Guns. Get more info at NRL22.org.
About NRL22 Tactical/Practical Competition The goal of NRL 22 is to make Precision Rifle competitions more available to every community. A significant percentage of American cities do NOT have nearby ranges where you can shoot to 500 yards and beyond. However, most Americans can access 100-yard ranges within a relatively short drive and most shooters own a .22 LR rifle. The NRL22 program is designed so any facility with a 100-yard range can host matches. Participants at local NRL22 events can then attend the National Championship. NRL22 started with four classifications: Open, Base, Ladies, and Young Guns (8-18 age). Air Rifle is the new fifth class.
