Gun Owners of America (GOA) Defends Second Amendment Rights
The Gun Owners of America (GOA) is an organization dedicated to protecting and defending the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. GOA’s lawyers have pursued legal efforts throughout the nation, in local, state, and Federal Courts, challenging unconstitutional gun control laws, executive actions, and federal overreach.

Gun Owners of America is actively engaged in some of the most critical Second Amendment legal battles today, including a forthcoming federal lawsuit to dismantle the remaining provisions of the National Firearms Act. GOA, along with the Gun Owners Foundation (GOF), has also filed a lawsuit against the United States Postal Service (USPS), seeking to overturn the Prohibition-era federal ban on the mailing of handguns. Additionally, Gun Owners of America has defended the right to build and own homemade firearms while fighting back against ATF overreach on pistol braces and other regulatory abuses. Brownells is proud to stand with GOA in defending the rights of law-abiding gun owners.

New Legal Actions by GOA to Eliminate National Firearms Act Restrictions
The GOA has recently commenced new legal actions in Federal Court to curtail remaining restrictions in the NFA. This could help make suppressors easier to obtain at much lower prices. That would benefit both hunters and target shooters.

About Gun Owners of America
Founded in 1975, Gun Owners of America (GOA) is known as “The only no-compromise gun lobby in Washington.” GOA works to protect the Second Amendment rights of Americans through grassroots activism, legal action, and by holding lawmakers accountable. GOA fights against federal and state-level infringements, challenges unconstitutional regulations in the courts, and leads efforts to advance pro-2A policies across the nation. Challenge to Federal Law Prohibiting USPS Handgun Shipping

usps handgun pistol shipping mail mailing legal court challenge lawsuit Shreve

usps handgun pistol shipping mail mailing legal court challenge lawsuit ShreveGun Owners of America (GOA) and Gun Owners Foundation (GOF), together with Pennsylvania resident Bonita Shreve, have filed a lawsuit against the United States Postal Service (USPS), seeking to overturn the Prohibition-era federal ban on the mailing of handguns. The Complaint alleges that this ban is “inconsistent with Founding-era historical tradition” of firearm regulation.

Since 1927, federal law has denied ordinary Americans the right to utilize the mails to ship handguns. Yet all the while, the USPS handles handgun shipments on behalf of businesses and government officials every single day. This ban is as arbitrary and discriminatory as it is violative of the Second Amendment — and its criminal penalties are steep.

Erich Pratt, Senior Vice President of Gun Owners of America, stated: “This complaint demonstrates that the federal government’s Prohibition-era ban on mailing handguns violates the Second Amendment. GOA is proud to stand with its members and supporters to ensure that their constitutional rights are protected, and we are committed to ending all anti-gun ‘rules for me, but not for thee’, in any form they may take.”

Sam Paredes, speaking for the Gun Owners Foundation, added: “This law was passed in a different time. Our complaint makes clear that every day this ban remains in effect, it infringes on the rights of law-abiding Americans who are fully entitled to exercise all of their Second Amendment freedoms. In America, using the Postal Service to mail handguns to other law-abiding individuals should not be a felony.”

Smart Option for Shipping Handguns Currently

Until Federal policy changes, persons without FFLs cannot use USPS to ship handguns — doing that can get you arrested! But there IS an efficient, cost-effective way to ship handguns — ship via UPS (United Parcel Service) using ShipMyGun.com labels.

If you want to ship handguns, as a private party (non-FFL), there are now very limited options. You cannot use the U.S. Postal Service, and, since September 2021, you cannot use FEDEX. Yes, that’s right, FEDEX no longer allows non-FFLs to ship handguns.

So UPS is currently the only choice for handguns (for non-FFLs). But this can be very expensive because of rules requiring overnight shipping. There IS an alternative that can save you significant money. By ordering your shipping labels from ShipMyGun.com, you could save $50 or more on UPS handgun shipping. It is quick and easy.

The ShipMyGun.com website has a simple to use label-printing process. All handgun shipments are fulfilled via next day air. Long guns are shipped quickly via ground and typically arrive within 3-5 business days. (NOTE: For rifles and shotguns it is still possible to use U.S. Postal Service following USPS rules.)

President Trump Signs Executive Order Re Second Amendment

trump second 2a amendment executive order

On February 7, 2025 President Donald Trump signed a new Executive Order intended to protect and restore Second Amendment rights throughout the United States. Here is the text of the Executive Order:

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered:

Section 1. Purpose. The Second Amendment is an indispensable safeguard of security and liberty. It has preserved the right of the American people to protect ourselves, our families, and our freedoms since the founding of our great Nation. Because it is foundational to maintaining all other rights held by Americans, the right to keep and bear arms must not be infringed.

Sec. 2. Plan of Action. (a) Within 30 days of the date of this order, the Attorney General shall examine all orders, regulations, guidance, plans, international agreements, and other actions of executive departments and agencies (agencies) to assess any ongoing infringements of the Second Amendment rights of our citizens, and present a proposed plan of action to the President, through the Domestic Policy Advisor, to protect the Second Amendment rights of all Americans.
(b) In developing such proposed plan of action, the Attorney General shall review, at a minimum:
(i) All Presidential and agencies’ actions from January 2021 through January 2025 that purport to promote safety but may have impinged on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens;
(ii) Rules promulgated by the Department of Justice, including by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, from January 2021 through January 2025 pertaining to firearms and/or Federal firearms licensees;
(iii) Agencies’ plans, orders, and actions regarding the so-called “enhanced regulatory enforcement policy” pertaining to firearms and/or Federal firearms licensees;
(iv) Reports and related documents issued by the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention;
(v) The positions taken by the United States in any and all ongoing and potential litigation that affects or could affect the ability of Americans to exercise their Second Amendment rights;
(vi) Agencies’ classifications of firearms and ammunition; and
(vii) The processing of applications to make, manufacture, transfer, or export firearms.

Sec. 3. Implementation. Upon submission of the proposed plan of action described in section 2 of this order, the Attorney General shall work with the Domestic Policy Advisor to finalize the plan of action and establish a process for implementation.

Sec. 4. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:
(i) the authority granted by law to an executive department, agency, or the head thereof; or
(ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.
(b) This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.
(c) This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

Gun Owners of America Praises New Executive Order
Washington, D.C. Press Release — Gun Owners of America (GOA) applauds President Trump for taking bold action to fulfill one of his key campaign promises. In signing an Executive Order today, President Trump laid out a plan for dismantling what he previously referred to as “all of the Biden [gun control] disasters”. This historic move sets the stage for a broader restoration of Second Amendment rights… GOA stands ready to work alongside this administration to protect and expand the rights of law-abiding gun owners nationwide.

Aidan Johnston, GOA’s Director of Federal Affairs, issued the following statement: “Gun owners fought hard to elect a president who would take a sledgehammer to Biden’s unconstitutional gun control policies, and today, President Trump proved he’s serious about that fight. We hope that this executive order is just the first of many victories reestablishing our Second Amendment rights during the Trump administration.”

GOA Secures Gun Owner Privacy in Health Care Legislation

No matter how you feel about the new Health Care Reform Act, there is at least ONE aspect of the legislation that should please you, thanks to the Gun Owners of America (GOA). Here’s the deal — at the insistent request of the GOA, a special provision was added to the health care reform bill that expressly FORBIDs any “wellness program” (public or private) from collecting (or distributing) any information about gun ownership. Why is this important? If such information was collected, health care providers could pass on the information to insurers who might then charge gun-owners higher rates based on perceived “unhealthy lifestyles” or higher risk factors.

Guns Owners of America

In addition to the ban on information collection, the GOA, through the efforts of Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, added a second critical protection to the new legislation. According to the Slate Blog, the GOA “won another provision forbidding private insurers participating in the bill’s exchanges from charging higher premiums, or denying coverage, or denying wellness discounts on the basis of gun ownership.” The “exchanges” mean the state-level insurance pools from which citizens may purchase health insurance if they are not currently covered.

Will this make a difference? You bet. One web reader, commenting on the Slate story, explained: “I’ve worked as a consultant to insurance companies and I can promise you they [the insurance companies] will not only use that data to charge you and your family more for insurance (dangerous activities), but then also pool their data and sell their data to any company or government agency that has the cash to pay the price. Is that what you wanted from health care?”

Obviously there are many other controversial issues associated with the new Health Care Reform Act. However, thanks to the GOA and Nevada Senator Harry Reid, at least firearm owners can take some comfort that health care providers and insurers will NOT be asking questions about our guns, and using the answers to raise our rates… or worse.
