The company was started in 1993, when Henry Repeating Arms Founder (and CE0) Anthony Imperato took a home equity loan in 1993 to start the Colt Blackpowder Arms Company. That entity made historic Colt revolvers and muskets under license from Colt’s Manufacturing. Along with his father, Louis Imperato, the father/son duo leveraged the family’s experience in the gun business and began developing a rimfire lever-action rifle in 1996. In March 1997, the first Henry Repeating Arms model H001 Classic Lever Action .22 rifles shipped from a small factory in Brooklyn, New York.
The Henry Repeating Arms motto is: “Made in America, Or Not Made At All.”
Now headquartered in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, the company employs over 550 people at three manufacturing facilities in Wisconsin and New Jersey. Henry manufactures over 200 different rifles and shotguns in a wide variety of calibers for hunting, home protection, and shooting sports. Guns For Great Causes
Through a charitable branch of the company called Guns For Great Causes, Henry Repeating Arms has made significant financial contributions to children’s hospitals and families of critically ill children. Guns For Great Causes also helps support active-duty and military veterans’ organizations, law enforcement and first responder organizations, pro-Second Amendment organizations, shooting sports education groups, and wildlife and habitat conservation entities. As part of Henry’s 25th-anniversary celebrations, the company is donating 1,000 Golden Boy “Silver Anniversary” Limited Edition rifles to raise a total of $1,000,000 for distribution among these deserving constituencies.

Here’s a notable firearms manufacturing milestone. Founded in 1997, Henry Repeating Arms has just produced its one-millionth Henry lever action .22 LR rimfire rifle, a special, pimped-out version of the reliable yet affordable Model H001, now sold in over 30 countries worldwide. Selected as the 2018 SHOT Show auction rifle, this one-of-a-kind millionth .22 LR H001 features silver finished receiver, elaborate scroll engraving, inlaid 24-carat gold highlights, and an exhibition-grade walnut stock.
The historic Henry will be sold via a GunBroker.com auction concluding on the final day of the 2018 SHOT Show (1/26/18). The Hunting Heritage Trust hopes to surpass the SHOT Show auction record of $136,014. Henry’s President Anthony Imperato stated: “This is the rifle that put Henry Repeating Arms on the map, energized the lever action market and resurrected the Henry name.”
The first Henry Lever Action .22 rifles were crafted in Brooklyn, New York two decades ago. In 2008, Henry moved production to New Jersey. Over the years, several variations of the H001 were added including a youth model, a carbine with a large loop lever, octagon barreled editions, and additional calibers in .22 Magnum and .17 HMR. Counting ALL the styles and chamberings, Henry has actually sold over TWO million H001 series rifles.

One week after the November Election, Henry Repeating Arms and the NRA pulled off a remarkable display of support for the Second Amendment at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix, Arizona.
On Monday, November 14th, 1000 proud shooters from 16 states stood side-by-side in a line spanning a mile and a half long. Under the supervision of NRA Rangemasters, the 1000 shooters simultaneously fired two shots from Henry Silver Boy .22 LR lever-action rifles.
Anthony Imperato (shown above), President of Henry Repeating Arms, said: “The Henry 1000-Man Shoot was all that I had hoped it would be and more. Looking out at a sea of 1000 participants, their families, and 400 volunteers, was very emotional. There was a tremendous sense of patriotism and I’ll never forget it.”
The record-breaking event was a combined effort between Henry Repeating Arms and the NRA. Henry donated the 1000 commemorative .22 LR rifles. One million dollars is expected to be raised. All proceeds will support NRA initiatives, including Firearms Safety, Youth Shooting Sports, Disabled Shooting programs, Child Safety programs, and NRA efforts to protect Second Amendment rights.
Pete Brownell, first VP of the NRA and CEO of Brownells Inc., said the 1000-Man Shoot served as a statement that Americans would stand up for their freedoms: “As some of you may know, we made history last week,” Brownell told the crowd. Then he encouraged participants to go out and make their own history with the record-setting shoot.
Another 1000-Man Shoot in the Future?
Will there be another 1000-man shoot? Perhaps, but there are few other shooting facilities that can hold 1000 shooters in a single line. According to the NRA’s American Rifleman: “Henry’s Anthony Imperato wasn’t ready to look ahead to a repeat of such a massive undertaking, [but] the shoot was so well-received that it wouldn’t surprise him if follow-up events occur, first because of the fact that the 1,000 slots filled so quickly, and second because he has received so many requests for a similar event in other parts of the country.”

Fans of 3-Gun competition should watch this week’s episode of Shooting USA television. Wednesday’s show features the Fort Benning 3-Gun event, the only multi-gun match held on an active Army base. At this 3-Gun match, the USAMU Action Shooting Team created very tough stages, with combat-type challenges for the competitors. The video below shows stages at the 2010 Fort Benning 3-Gun Competition. The video begins with a competitor firing an Army-supplied M249 machine gun.
M24EI Sniper Rifle, Henry Rifle, and Julie Golob Also Featured
In addition to the Fort Benning 3-Gun coverage, this week’s ShootingUSA broadcast features three other interesting items. Shooting USA provides a first look at the U.S. Army’s new, upgraded sniper rifle, the M24EI, based on Remington’s XM-2010 modular rifle. Also, Shooting USA tells the history of the Henry Rifle, the first really successful lever rifle and the predecessor of Winchester’s classic Model 1866 and Model 1873 lever guns. This rare .44 caliber Henry rifle, used during the Civil War, sold for $48,300 at a 2009 auction.
