A strong argument can be made that Robert Vadasz is the greatest law enforcement pistol shooter of all time — in this galaxy or any other. This past week Border Patrolman Vadasz captured an unprecedented sixth NRA National Police Shooting Championship (NPSC). That’s five in a row for Robert, and six titles in the last seven years. How do you spell dominance? V-A-D-A-S-Z.

This year Robert had to overcome a jammed pistol in one of his relays, but he still managed to shoot top score for the day and finished with the highest Grand Aggregate, 56 points ahead of the next-best competitor. The NPSC involves a variety of timed, action shooting events for revolvers, semi-automatic pistols, and police shotguns.

The competition began on September 14th and wrapped up yesterday (the 18th) with the team championships. Shooters vying for the overall title take part in sixteen different individual matches in four separate categories: Open Class Revolver, Open Class Semi-Automatic Pistol, Individual Service Pistol, and Law Enforcement Shotgun. More than 400 law enforcement officers from across the globe gathered in Albuquerque, New Mexico to take part in the competition.
Vadasz shot well in all the different events. For example, in the Open Class Revolver Championship, Vadasz scored 1498 out of 1500 possible points, a near perfect performance. That score, along with his 1495 total from the Open Class Semi-Automatic Championship, gave the Border Patrol Agent another title — the Open Class 3000.

 What do you give the man who has everything? How about his own 1760-square-foot, armor-plated shoot house from MGM Targets? Heck he can even assemble it himself with a couple big wrenches (and a lot of help from friends). Of course you must lay a solid concrete foundation first — MGM’s Shoot House is composed of 40,000 pounds of steel (20 tons). The MGM Shoot House employs a modular design so it can be assembled in a wide variety of layouts to suit the owner. All walls are constructed of 3/8″-thick armored plate. Plywood facings serve as a “containment system” to protect shooters from splash-back and bullet fragments from shots fired. To protect folks on the outside, the 3/8″-thick steel is thick enough to prevent penetration by all pistol cartridges, all shotshells, and rifle rounds up to a 7.62×51 (.308 Win).
$117,000 for the SHOOT HOUSE — But Recoup Costs via Rentals
What does all this cost? The SHOT Show price is just $117,000, not including foundation and assembly labor costs. MGM calls this “affordable”. Well we know some shooters who have over $100K tied up in a motor home. Realistically, this is not something an individual would buy, although it would be within the budget of some larger shooting clubs, considering that some of the cost could be offset by renting out the Shoot House to law enforcement groups.
While the Shoot House was designed primarily for military and law enforcement group training, it can also be used by private shooting clubs for pistol and multi-gun matches. In addition, a private range or club may want to construct a Shoot House, and then earn revenue by leasing it back to the local police or sheriffs’ agencies.  It’s comforting to know that our U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) personnel are not only competent with firearms — some of them are among the finest shooters in the entire law enforcement community. At the recent National Police Shooting Championship held in Albuquerque, NM, USBP agents dominated the individual and team competition, outshooting LEO competitors from around the country.
Vadasz Wins Second NPSC Title
Senior U.S. Border Patrol Agent Robert Vadasz topped the field of over 400 competitors to secure his second National Police Shooting Individual Championship in three years. Vadasz dropped a mere 19 shots throughout the tournament, finishing with a 2981-221x score. Finishing second was Customs & Border Protection agent Doug Goff, with 2976-199x. U.S. Border Patrolman Kevin Worrell finished thrid with 2973-193x.
 “It’s an honor to be here, again,” said Vadasz. “Your gun jams, it slips off the post, your foot cramps, or your ammunition betrays you; there are a lot of things that can go wrong. This year, everything came together, and it feels great.”
In team competition, U.S. Border Patrol squads turned in great performances. USBP Teams finished first and second in the Open Class Revolver 4-Officer Event, with USBP Blue Team scoring 2372-163X, and USBP Gold Team finishing second with 2356-131X. In the Open Class Semi-Auto 4-Officer Team event, the USBP Blue Team scored 2357-147X to finish a close second to the winning CBP Blue Team, which took the title with a 2360-134X tally.
