Reloading components are in short supply right now — bullets, brass, powder, primers — you name it. But here’s some good news. Powder Valley Inc. (PVI) has received a huge shipment of Berry’s Mfg. plated bullets. PVI’s president Bryan Richardson said his company now has seven (7) tons of Berry’s bullets in stock, mostly copper-plated pistol bullets. PVI now has Berry’s bullets in all the popular pistol calibers, including: .32 (0.312), .380 (0.356), 9mm, .38/357, .40/10mm, .44 (0.429), and .45 (0.452). PVI also has some Berry’s rifle bullets in stock for: .30 carbine, 7.62×39, and 45-70.

Here’s good news for purchasers of reloading components. Powder Valley Inc. (PVI) is “holding the line” on prices of powder, primers, brass, and bullets. In so doing, Powder Valley is “keeping the faith” with its customer base. By contrast, many local gun shops and big box retailers have jacked up prices on guns, ammo, and reloading supplies in response to a spike in demand. With the hue and cry for new gun control legislation, gun owners have rushed to stores to get guns, ammo, and reloading components. Predictably, some retailers have raised prices on everything from primers to all types of semi-auto firearms. Not so with Powder Valley. If you check the PVI website, you’ll see that prices for almost all products in stock are basically the same as a month ago (before the events in Newtown). Unlike some other vendors, Powder Valley has refrained from ramping up prices. We commend PVI for this.
Here is what Powder Valley owner Bryan Richardson told us about his company’s pricing policy:
“We watched back in 2009 as companies jacked up their prices due to supply and demand. This may make sense for some retailers and manufacturers. However, this is not the way we do business, nor will ever do business. It is completely against our conviction.
My wife and I established our business in 2000 with a mission statement of: ‘Providing the finest in reloading components and other shooting sports related products at the best possible price. In doing so, we will conduct business with the utmost respect and consideration for the customer’s needs by constantly demonstrating honesty and integrity.’
Therefore, increasing prices due to current market and political conditions is contrary to our mission of conducting business with the utmost respect and consideration for the customer’s needs. It is my opinion that if we want our industry to survive… we cannot price consumers out of shooting. Therefore, when you see our prices increase or decrease it is simply based off of the manufacturer’s or importer’s pricing. I think history shows that consumers remember the companies who elevated their prices for short-term profits and those who did not. We are here for the long haul and want to grow our business through building our customer base, not increasing our prices.”

Powder Valley Expects New Alliant Powders by Mid-September
In related news, Bryan at Powder Valley let us know that two new Alliant powders should arrive very soon: “We expect to receive Alliant Reloder 33 and Alliant 1200R within the next 10 days. Alliant RL33 was specifically manufactured for the 338 Lapua Magnum. Alliant 1200R is a new ball powder very similar to Reloder 10X.” This would make Allliant 1200R a good choice for progressive reloading for small rifle cartridges. Powders in the RL10X burn-rate range work well for light bullet applications in .222 Rem, .223 Rem, .22-250 Rem and benchrest calibers.
New Reloder 33 Delivers More Speed in Big Magnums
Alliant Reloder 33 is a new powder created by Rheinmetall Nitrochemie in Switzerland (Nitrochemie also makes Reloder 17). Like Reloder 17, Alliant’s new Reloder 33 powder employs a proprietary process by which the powder kernels are impregnated with burn-rate controlling elements. This delays the peak pressure spike and smooths out the pressure curve. Effectively, this allows the powder to deliver energy at a more constant rate, producing more overall velocity for the bullet — as much as 150 fps more than with any other powder. Reloder 33 was designed for the .338 Lapua Magnum but it is suitable for other large magnums and ultra-magnums. Reloder 33 should “raise the bar” of velocity for the .338 Lapua Magnum and other ultra-magnums.

If you purchased Berger’s “6mm BR Column” bullets recently, check your lot number on the box. Berger Bullets has recalled lot number 4192 of 6mm BR Column bullets (Berger item #24407). If you have this lot number please contact Berger at (714) 447-5425, and Berger will ship you high-quality replacement bullets. We are not sure why these bullets are being recalled, but rest assured that Berger will provide high-quality replacements promptly. Note: It is known that part of lot number 4192 was originally shipped to Powder Valley.
About the 6mm BR Column Bullet Design
Berger’s “6mm BR Column” bullets were created for short-range (100-300 yards) benchrest applications. This name does not mean the bullet is designed just for the 6mm BR cartridge. Rather it is designed for all 6mm short-range benchrest (BR) rifles, most of which are 6 PPCs (for group shooting at least). The “Column” in the name comes from the fact that Berger optimized the height of the lead core column inside the bullet. Testing revealed that bullets which had very uniform core column heights shot more accurately and were also easier to tune. Berger says the new 6mm BR ‘Column’ projectiles started shipping in mid-March, 2012.

Quite a few popular powders have been hard to get lately. Some folks have been worried about shortages in anticipation of the fall elections. However major vendors are reporting that the brown trucks have arrived with large shipments from Alliant, Hodgdon, and Western Powder. Most of the most popular powders for precision reloaders are now in stock. If you’ve been waiting on your favorite powder, now is time to stock up.
Grafs.com is showing good availability of the most popular Hodgdon powders including Varget, H4350, H4831SC, H4198, and the new Superformance powder developed with Hornady. Grafs.com also has 1-lb containers of the new CFE-223 powder in stock, but 8-lb CFE-223 jugs are currently sold out. This powder is working well for the AR and varmint shooters who have tried it. |

Midsouth Shooters Supply reports that Ramshot TAC is back in stock in large quantities. Ramshot TAC is a versatile double-based rifle powder. TAC has the ability to provide some of the industry’s highest velocities for 80gr bullets in the .223 Rem chambering while adhering to SAAMI pressure guidelines. TAC is known for ease of metering and good load density. It is well-suited for both .223 Rem, and .308 Winchester. |

Powder Valley just announced it has received 120 4-lb kegs of Vihtavuori N320 powder. This stuff has been hard to find lately, so Powder Valley suggests: “Get em quick. They won’t last long!”
We know why N320 powder is in high demand (most vendors are sold out right now). This is a truly outstanding propellant for the .45 ACP. It is very accurate, burns clean, and it meters well from progressive presses. This Editor has tried a dozen different powders for my .45 ACPs and N320 is my top choice for 180-200gr bullets. Nothing was more accurate, and N320 burned cleaner (with fewer sparks and unburnt particles flying back) than WW 231 (which is also very accurate).

Powder Valley is running a great Wolf Ammo Special right now. All Wolf rifle ammo in .223 Rem and 7.62×39 is just $5.00 per box of 20 rounds. This Polyperformance ammo features polymer-coated steel cases (non-reloadable). The polymer coating ensures smooth feeding and extraction. In addition, the coating helps prevents the steel cases from leaving marks on your shiny metal parts or painted stocks. Note that Wolf ammo has a 100% performance guarantee. If you are not satisfied, Wolf will refund the pro-rated purchase cost of the unused portion of your ammo. Can’t argue with that.

Powder Valley has resumed its popular “Free Shipping/Free Hazmat” promotion with TulAmmo primers. These are Russian primers made in the same factory as the Wolf primers. TulAmmo (Tula) primers have the same manufacturer product IDs as Wolf primers and Powder Valley says the TulAmmo primers are identical to the Wolfs in performance.
Free Hazmat and Free Shipping with Order of 10,000 or More Primers
Here’s the deal. If you purchase at least 5,000 TulAmmo primers, Powder Valley will provide free shipping, but you still incur a hazmat charge. If you buy 10,000 TulAmmo primers (two) cases, you can get free shipping AND Powder Valley will pay the hazmat fee for your primers and up to 40 lbs. of additional total product.
Bryan of Powder Valley explains: “We discontinued this special January 1, 2011, but we have gotten so many requests for it we are bringing it back. We have had a tremendous amount of positive feedback regarding the Tula primers. So far we have sold over 20 million of the Tula primers. Feedback has been 100% positive.” Powder Valley plans to offer this special bulk pricing through the end of February, subject to product availability. So, when supplies run out the special deals may be halted. You should get your orders in soon, to take advantage of this deal. Terms of promo listed below:
TulAmmo Primer Specials for 5k and 10K Orders
FREE FREIGHT AND FREE HAZMAT: Order two or more cases (10,000) of Tula primers and Powder Valley will ship to you free. That’s right, no freight, no hazmat, no insurance. You can add up to 40 lbs. of additional product to your order. (Does not include media or shot)
FREE FREIGHT: Order one or more case (5,000) of Tula primers and Powder Valley will ship to you freight free (but you pay hazmat). You can add up to 45 lbs. of additional product to your order under the same hazmat charge of $25.00. Insurance is $0.50 per $100. (Does not include media or shot)

Here’s a great deal on bulk Russian primers from Powder Valley. If you buy at least two (2) cases of TulAmmo primers (5,000 primers/case), Powder Valley will absorb the shipping cost AND the Hazmat fee. So if you buy at least 10,000 TulAmmo primers you get FREE Shipping with no Hazmat charge.
Add 40 lbs. of Other Items and Still Ship for Free
In addition — and this is important — if you buy at least two (2) cases of the TulAmmo primers, you can add additional hazmat items into the shipment, up to a total of 50 pounds net weight (that’s roughly 40 pounds of other products) and you still get free shipping with no hazmat fee. So if you need powder or other brands of primers, you can get big savings on shipping charges, as long as you purchase at least two cases of TulAmmo primers.
Special Promo Is Limited
This free shipping/free Hazmat promo is limited to the inventory of TulAmmo primers now on hand. Bryan, who runs Powder Valley, says he expects to offer the promotion through the end of November, and “possibly” into December. But once the current TulAmmo inventories are depleted, the deal is over.
TulAmmo primers (for rifle, pistol, and shotgun) are the exact same primers as Wolf. Both TulAmmo and Wolf primers are produced in the same Murom Apparatus Producing Plant in Russia and they have the same product codes. However, Murom wholesales TulAmmo primers at lower cost than Wolf primers.
