Cabela’s Multi-Tool — $7.99
You won’t find a more versatile tool at this low price — just $7.99. The Cabela’s multi-tool performs many functions. The stainless steel frame features 8 tools: wire-cutting pliers with bolt grip, wire-stripper, knife, Phillips and flat-head screwdrivers, saw, bottle opener, and scissors. Closed length is 3″. This handy tool is available in five colors: Red, Teal, Orange, Silver, and Green. A durable nylon belt sheath protects and carries the multitool.
Lyman Pocket Touch Scale Kit with Funnel — $22.99
Lyman’s handy Pan/Funnel Combo Kit includes a small digital scale, powder pan/funnel, powder scoop, and check weight — all for just $22.99 at Midsouth. The black powder-receiving pan/funnel is one integrated unit so you don’t need a separate funnel. Weigh the powder on the scale in horizontal “pan mode” then use the same pan/funnel to put the powder into your cartridge case.
B&T Industries BT62 Determinator — $7.95
The acrylic BT62 Determinator measures groups with laser-cut concentric measuring rings. Check group size quick and easy — simply place the Determinator over shot group. Adjust until one of the circles crosses the center of the two outer-most holes. That gives you the center to center group measurement (1.5″ maximum). Alternatively, you can measure edge to edge (of the farthest shots) and then subtract the bullet diameter. Cool tool for gun guys. The supplied lanyard also glows in the dark.
Lyman Powder Scale Pan and Case Funnel — $8.95
The Lyman Powder Pan/Funnel saves reloaders time by combining the powder-receiving pan and funnel into one unit. With this combo tool reloaders can pour powder directly into the case without having to fumble with a separate funnel. That’s smart and efficient. RCBS makes a similar powder pan/funnel ($8.95 on Amazon) with a slightly different case-neck section. You may want to try both to determine which works best for your cartridge brass.
Wheeler Manual Trigger Pull Scale — $20.45
While we prefer a sensitive digital trigger pull gauge, it’s nice to have a manual back-up. And the Wheeler gauge is plenty accurate for pistols and most hunting rifles. The Wheeler trigger pull scale accurately measures trigger pull weight from 8 ounces to 8 pounds. It features an ergonomic handle for consistent direction of pull. The sliding indicator stays reliably on the maximum weight registered and high contrast pull weight increment marks are very easy to read. This spring-type trigger scale measures in 2-ounce increments and is accurate to +/- 2 ounces — plenty good for pistols and hunting rifles. Priced at just $20.45 on Amazon, this gauge has earned 89% four- or five-star owner reviews.
Surveyor’s Flagging Tape (for Wind Indicators) — $1.69 per Roll
Allen Camouflage/Black Neoprene Scope Cover — $9.98
Here’s a great gift item for a hunter. This reversible Camo-pattern Neoprene Scope Cover fits scopes up to 10″ long and 44mm lens diameter. The cover cushions your scope and protects against moisture and scratches. Along with the $9.98 10″ version, Allen makes a 12″ medium camo scope cover, $13.99 on Amazon. NOTE: These covers are reversible with Mossy Oak Break-Up Country camo on one side (as show), and black on the other side.
MagnetoSpeed — RifleKuhl Barrel Cooling Fan — $54.00
Cooling your barrel with a compact fan can extend barrel life. This bright red RifleKuhl from Magnetospeed is quite effective. The battery-powered impeller pushes cooling air down the barrel. It has a chamber seal for increased cooling efficiency while a neodymium magnet helps secure the device to your action. This is a very nice gift for a target shooter or hunter. There is also a .223 Rem version in black leather. Both these leather ammo holders conveniently fit into a shooting coat pocket via a leather pocket flap.

Sack-Ups 13.5″ Pistol Storage Sock — $7.99
Here’s an actual fabric sock that you can roll up and put in your Christmas stocking. Sack-Up knitted storage sacks are made from silicone-treated 100% natural cotton. The cotton’s wicking ability draws moisture off the gun, inhibiting corrosion. This $7.99 13.5″ Sack-Ups sock is a great choice for revolvers and metal-framed pistols. Midsouth also carries larger 36″, 42″, and 52″ Sack-Ups for shotguns and rifles.
Hornady Wireless Remote Hygrometer — $29.99

Summer Solstice is just four days away. That means shooters nationwide will soon be dealing with peak summer ambient temperatures. When it’s hot outside your barrels will heat up even faster during use — and that’s not good for barrel longevity or consistency during long strings of fire. If you want a barrel to have maximum useful life you need to keep it from getting very hot. That’s why you should have a barrel cooler. There are many variations, but the most popular models blow cooling air through the bore. This can reduce barrel temps significantly in a relatively short period of time.
For this Saturday Movies feature, we’ve found 7 videos that review commercial barrel coolers or show how to build your own cooler with a hose, small electric fan, and modified case. There are a variety of barrel coolers on the market currently. Three of the most popular coolers are the yellow BarrelCool, $39.99 at MidwayUSA, the red Magnetospeed RifleKuhl, $56.89 on Amazon ($59.99 MSRP), and the black/yellow Chamber Chiller BA PRO, $80.40 on Amazon.
Barrel Coolers — Why You Should Use Them
This video explains why it’s vitally important to keep your barrel cool, particularly when running a suppressor. The host, a long-range shooting instructor, explains: “The best way to extend your barrel life [is using] barrel coolers. We have learned through decades of shooting that keeping the barrel cool and cooling it as fast as possible between relays and strings of fire will return meaningful results in the longevity of your rifle barrel. If you shoot suppressed like we do, this brings the level of importance up to a whole new level. Keeping it cool will keep it running at its best longer than you ever thought possible.” The barrel cooler featured in this video is $65.00 on the Wolf Precision website.
Barrel Cooler Comparison Tests — Four Options
Barrel coolers are vital accessories that let you get more shots downrange with less time waiting. In this excellent, comparison test video LongRangeOnly’s Ryan Furman shows which barrel coolers will remove the most heat with the rate of air flow comparison. Ryan also covers some basic differences and attributes of each unit tested and tests the units with temp gauges. Units tested are the BarrelCool, Magnetospeed RifleKuhl, the blue-bodied Original Barrel Cooler (6:48 time-mark), and a large Coleman rechargeable Quick-Pump (8:12 time-mark). The latter two units provided the most airflow when fitted with an appropriate hose.
Build Your Own Barrel Cooler — New and Improved
Popular YouTube host F-Class John was one of the pioneers in building very affordable, yet very effective do-it-yourself barrel coolers. John initially used a hose fitted to a battery-powered black Rechargeable Mini Air Pump. John then tapered a hose to fit a cartridge case for a perfect fit in the chamber. The case-head was cut off to better fit the hose for maximum airflow.
F-Class John later created an upgraded barrel cooling system using smaller, more compact pumps. He would charge these with a high-capacity battery pack (see above) and a USB charging cord. As shown in the video above, this Gen 2 system proved to be very effective. John notes: “Make sure you watch how long you the pump runs and don’t let it overheat”. One of these USB-port Mini Air Pumps is currently available on Amazon for $29.98, and there are similar compact pumps for a bit less.
Chamber Chiller BA Pro vs. Magnetospeed RifleKuhl
This video compares two compact barrel coolers, the red Magnetospeed RifleKuhl, $56.89 on Amazon and the yellow Chamber Chiller BA PRO, $80.40 on Amazon. Hear the tester’s conclusions starting at the 2:40 time-mark. The tester reports that both the RifleKuhl and the Chamber Chiller fit well in the chambers. The two units cooled down barrels pretty much identically in the field. Measured with a Kestrel, the RifleKuhl had a 12 mph flow vs. 11 mph flow for the Chamber Chiller (3:03 time-mark). The deciding factors for the tester (1:32 time-mark) were the superior battery life of the Chamber Chiller (with an extra USB battery attached) and the quietness of the Chamber Chiller.
Riflekühl Barrel Cooler by MagnetoSpeed
The MagnetoSpeed Riflekühl barrel cooler is designed to get barrel temperatures down to intended operating levels quickly. The turbocharger-inspired impeller is engineered to produce great airflow in a small package. Powered by a single CR123A Lithium battery (included), ambient air is forced through the extendable nozzle down the bore of the rifle. This is pretty efficient and can typically cool a barrel in under 8 minutes. The Riflekühl doubles as a chamber flag and features an exclusive built-in air filter to prevent dust and dirt from being blown into your rifle.
DIY Barrel Cooler Made with Mattress Inflator and Hose
An average gun-owner can build a good barrel cooler relatively easily with low-cost components. In this GunMart.TV video from the UK, the host showcases a very effective barrel cooler he crafted with an electric mattress inflator and a hose. The unit has good flow and can cool a barrel in a couple of minutes (3:10 time-mark). These components can be purchased for under $30.00. The tester purchased his cooler fan for $14.99 on Amazon (3:40 time-mark).

Christmas is just three days away, so today we’re featuring a dozen “stocking stuffers” for precision shooters. Some of these are innovative new products. Most are handy items that you’ll use over and over again at the range, and/or at your loading bench (so yes you’re allowed to buy them for yourself, even after Christmas).
B&T Industries BT62 Determinator
The acrylic BT62 Determinator ($7.95) measures groups with laser-cut concentric measuring rings.

Lyman — Powder Scale Pan and Case Funnel
The Lyman Powder Pan/Funnel saves reloaders time by combining the powder-receiving pan and funnel into one unit. With this combo tool reloaders can pour powder directly into the case without having to fumble with a separate funnel. That’s smart and efficient. RCBS makes a similar powder pan/funnel ($6.99 on Amazon) with a slightly different case-neck section. You may want to try both to determine which works best for your cartridge brass.
Creedmoor Sports — BoreTech Rimfire Blend
With the shortages of powder and primers, many folks will be shooting more rimfire in 2021. While .22 LR rimfire rifles require less cleaning compared to centerfire rifles, you still need to maintain those rimfire barrels. We like Bore Tech’s Rimfire Blend Bore Cleaner, $13.95 at Creedmoor Sports. This specially-formulated, ammonia-free bore cleaner can simultaneously cut through the layers of lead, wax, and carbon fouling. NOTE: After use you may have to shoot quite a few rounds before best accuracy returns.
MagnetoSpeed — RifleKuhl Barrel Cooling Fan
Cooling your barrel with a compact fan can extend barrel life. This bright red RifleKuhl from Magnetospeed is quite effective. The battery-powered impeller pushes cooling air down the barrel. It has a chamber seal for increased cooling efficiency while a neodymium magnet helps secure the device to your action. The RifleKuhl includes a belt/pocket clip and there is a Replaceable built-in 50 Micron air filter. The RifleKuhl costs $54.99 on Amazon.
Lyman Case Prep Multi-Tool with Internal Storage
This handy Lyman Case Prep Multi-Tool can perform multiple task. On one end is an inside neck chamferer, with the outside chamferer/deburrer on the opposite end. Creedmoor Sports — RWS Meisterkugeln Air Rifle Pellets
Air rifle shooting is fun, inexpensive (air is still FREE), and can be done indoors in the winter. These RWS pellets are great for practice or sporter airgun competition. Relatively inexpensive, RWS Meisterkugeln pellets are very uniform and offer great performance for the price, $8.95 at Creedmoor Sports.
JKL Precision — LabRadar Recoil Pulse Trigger
Frustrated with your LabRadar missing shots? With this $35 LabRadar Recoil Trigger you will be much happier — and you won’t get false readings from the guy on the next bench. This plug-in device activates the LabRadar from your rifle’s inertial recoil pulse. It will work with any rifle from a .22 LR up to the big magnums. NOTE: The inertial trigger is sensitive so a “phantom” reading may occur with hard bolt manipulation. However, our Forum members who use this trigger say it is is a great improvement, with no more LOST shots and LabRadar placement is no longer critical. One owner noted: “This unit works flawlessly. Amazon — GunMaster Flexible Bore Light
How many times have you gone to look into a barrel or dark corner of a gun only to find you just can’t see in there? You can easily solve this problem by picking up this GunMaster Flexible Bore Light for just $7.30 on Amazon. A bore light is a “must-have” item for handgun owners, and these are also handy for inspecting dies, rifle chambers, and tool interiors. Honestly for this price you should grab a couple so you have one in your range bag and another on your bench. The flexible cord makes this handy for actions without rear ports, such as the Ruger 10/22 and shotgun actions.
Wheeler Manual Trigger Pull Scale
While we prefer a sensitive digital trigger pull gauge, it’s nice to have a manual back-up. And the Wheeler gauge is plenty accurate for pistols and most hunting rifles. The Wheeler trigger pull scale accurately measures trigger pull weight from 8 ounces to 8 pounds. It features an ergonomic handle for consistent direction of pull. Thousands of new products will be on display at SHOT Show 2019, the huge gun industry trade show held each January in Las Vegas. Some of the most highly-anticipated products have not yet been revealed, including new rifles, chassis systems, and state-of-the-art optics and LRFs. However, the SHOT Show Product Planner offers a “sneak peek” at 296 new-for-2019 products. More will come in the weeks ahead. For the time being, however, here are TEN interesting new products. Since most are completely new items, we haven’t been able to test them yet. Accordingly the product descriptions are provided by the manufacturers.
1. MDT Adjustable Core Competition (ACC) Chassis
The MDT ACC (Adjustable Core Competition) Chassis was designed around an integrated, modular weight system that allows shooters to fine tune chassis weight and balance point. A series of weights (up to 9 lbs. of steel) can be added to either the buttstock, interior fore-end or exterior fore-end. With action, barrel, scope and accessories, shooters can configure their rifles upwards of 25-30 lbs. in the ACC. The ACC weight management system allows shooters to rapidly adjust the feel and recoil characteristics of their rifle — at the range or during a competition. Other features include: full 17” ARCA/RRS fore-end, flared mag well, extended barricade stop, widened thumb shelf, and adjustable cheek riser/length of pull.
The new GRS Bifrost stock is made of glass fiber-reinforced composite material with tactile rubber surfaces on the grip and fore-end zones. The SpeedLock 2.0 system has LOP and Cheekpiece adjustment, like the original Speedlock system, but also includes a height-adjustable and cant-adjustable recoil pad. This allows for the perfect stock to shooter fit. Picatinny Rail mounts are located on the bottom and both sides of the fore-end, and the bottom of the buttstock. This allows easy attachment of lights, lasers, monopods, and bipods. Two Picatinny rails are included with the Bifrost stock, which retails for $730.00, as inletted for a variety of popular actions.
3. TargetVision Hawk WiFi Spotting Scope Camera
The Hawk Smart Scope is the next evolution of digiscoping. This TargetVision product turns any regular spotting scope into a smart scope in just minutes. Simply slide the Hawk over the spotting scope’s eyepiece, activate the signal, and open the Targetvision App on a smartphone or tablet. The Hawk camera connects to the mobile device via WiFi. Then you can view the camera feed (from the spotter) and unlock all of the App features. Basically this lets you position your spotting scope remotely and watch it through a digital screen. You’ll find more info (plus “how-to” videos) at TargetVisioncam.com. Price: $225.00 Pre-Order Special (Reg. $299.00)
4. Scope Comparison Platform from Rack’em Rack
This innovative Scope Comparer allows consumers to compare rifle scopes side-by-side. Simply slide the plate laterally to compare rifle scopes. This system ships with three different plates — One Plate for 30mm tube scopes, one for 1″ tube scopes, and a third (with rail) for red dot-type optics. An optional plate for 34mm-tube scopes is also available. All the sliding plates easily remove with the pull of a pin. Made by Rack ‘Em Racks, the novel Scope Comparer retails for $199.00.
5. Swagger Bipod — Telescoping Field Support for Hunters
The new Swagger bipod replaces a conventional bipod as well as shooting sticks. With a huge adjustment range from 6 3/4″ to 29″, the Swagger is ideal for western hunters, spot-and-stalk situations or anywhere long shots from the ground are likely. Notably, you can switch from a rigid attachment to a flexible attachment. And you can angle the legs forward, rearward, or to either side. When needed, remove the rubber footpads to use spiked feet for more “grip”. The Swagger’s telescoping legs fit inside a polymer housing mounted to your rifle’s forearm. Assembled weight is 23.6 oz, complete with Nitride finish springs/spring housing and reinforced bungee.

This exclusive X Products side-charging upper (SCU) boasts dual-side ejection ports with an off-side cover and interchangeable grip and off-hand slide handles, making it completely customizable to right- or left-handed shooter. The proprietary carrier introduces a new charging method that puts the force lower on the axis for smoother, more linear operation. The non-reciprocating charging handle can lock forward to prevent movement during operation. Price: $199.00

Featuring an ergonomic handle and two premium ball bearing sets, the rod can smoothly pass through the bore of your barrel without binding up under pressure. The lightweight yet durable carbon fiber construction is long lasting and won’t permanently bend or break under pressure. When kept free of debris, carbon fiber shafts are gentle on your barrel’s rifling. Available in the following sizes, all with standard 8-32 threads:

9. Kalispel Caseline Aluminum Gun Cases
Kalispel Caseline aluminum rifle cases are made in the USA from .080 marine-grade aluminum. They feature closed waterproof rivets, military spec hardware and stainless steel locking rod assemblies. These metal cases features Heliarc welds for strength and security, not fused joints like other lesser brands. Each case is hand-inspected for quality control. Kalispel has been making cases for many years, but there are new models for 2019. Powder coating and color options available. Prices range from $160 to $550.
10. RifleKuhl Barrel Cooling Unit from MagnetoSpeed
Tired of waiting for your rifle barrel to cool down? MagnetoSpeed’s new Riflekuhl barrel cooler, is designed to get barrel temperatures down to intended operating levels quickly. The turbocharger-inspired impeller produces great air flow in a small package. Powered by a single CR123A Lithium battery (included), ambient air is forced through the extendable nozzle down the bore of the rifle. This pushes air flow down the barrel where it’s needed to efficiently cool barrels, typically under 7 minutes. RifleKuhl doubles as a chamber flag and features an exclusive built-in air filter to prevent dust and dirt from being blown into your rifle. Price: $59.99
