Nosler Introduces New 30 Nosler Cartridge
Here’s an item of interest to hunters (and maybe a few F-Open shooters). Nosler has just introduced a new magnum-type cartridge, the 30 Nosler. Sharing the same parent case as the 26 and 28 Nosler® cartridges, the 30 Nosler® has the case capacity to launch big 30-caliber bullets at impressive velocities (3000 FPS for a 210-grainer). Nosler says the 30 Nosler combines the best qualities of other 30-cal magnums: “The 30 Nosler® easily meets the velocity of the 300 Weatherby, headspaces on the shoulder like a 300 RUM, has an efficient powder column like the 300 WSM and fits in the same standard length action of a 300 Winchester Magnum.”
30 Nosler Will Function in a Standard Length Action
The 30 Nosler has a C.O.A.L. of 3.340″ allowing this cartridge to be operated in a standard length action for lighter weight and shorter bolt throw when compared to magnum-length actions.
The 30 Nosler is a SAAMI-standardized cartridge so there will be standardized dimensions for brass, dies, and chamber reamers. Nosler will support this new cartridge with Nosler Brass, Trophy Grade™ Ammunition and a series of M48 hunting rifles. The initial offerings in Nosler’s Trophy Grade™ Ammunition will be:
Nosler® Trophy Grade™ Ammunition: 180gr AccuBond® 3200 fps
Nosler® Trophy Grade™ LR Ammunition: 210gr AccuBond® LR 3000 fps

I wonder how big a barrel burner that cartridge will be? Sounds like it’s gonna be really harsh on barrel life.
Two inputs..
1. Barrels are expendable.
2. How many hunters fire more than 50 rounds/yr out of purpose-built 30 cal magnums?
My guess is that most ammunition sales will go to average hunters purchasing factory rifles and won’t see 300 rounds in a lifetime.
Another cartridge with the same problem. Its not optimized for seating those heavy bullets out long.
Lapua did it right when they repurposed the 260rem into the 6.5×47 I hope they make a case soon that fills this area as there is nothing really well designed in the magnum area.
These nosler cases have not produced any good records yes in the 26 and 28 versions. I doubt this will either.
Just when we thought cartridge development was dead….
I like the case design but still not clear weather or not it needs a magnum bolt face?
Guy:
26, 28 and 30 Nosler need magnum bolt faces:

Yes Guy, the Noslers use the .540 Magnum bolt face.
Thanks
what does this 30 cal mag do that all the others cant 300wm, 300 wsm , 30 rum,300 weatherby mag etc. ???
Grimstod: see 300 norma.
Gets rid of belt. Have 250 rds through 26Nosler w/140gr bullets(Nosler,Hornady) scoped LW barrel no throat erosion yet.
The 30 Nosler has 300 WBY velocity in a standard action which is lighter, slicker, faster, stiffer and stronger than a long action. The 30 Nosler has no useless belt which restricts case capacity and forces head spacing on the shoulder. Belted cartridges can separate above the belt if the die pushes the shoulder back. The 300 WIN has a shorter neck than the 30 Nosler and does not grip the bullet as well. My 300 WSM has a rebated rim like the 30 Nosler and causes me no feeding problems.
Can the Nosler 30 caliber be shot in a .300 win mag?
Could you let me have a print for this cartridge? We have a customer in Austria wants us to make him a reamer for this.
Thanks
Geoffrey
Barrel Burner? No one complains about Weatherby Mags burning barrels. How many elk can anyone hunt to burn out a hunting barrel. This is not for F-1.
