Trijicon 5-50x56mm Long Range Scope — New and Powerful
At the 2018 NRA Show in Dallas last week, Trijicon unveiled a notable new scope that should interest Benchrest shooters and Long-Range competitors. The all-new Trijicon AccuPower 5-50x56mm Long Range Scope offers an impressive ten times zoom range, plus an illuminated reticle. This RS50 Series Second Focal Plane scope with 34mm main tube is offered in both MOA and MIL systems. The MOA version features 1/8 MOA clicks plus a reticle with 1 MOA subtensions at 40X power. The MIL version has 1/20 Milrad click values and a ranging style reticle with wind hold dot system. Both MOA and MIL versions have a full 100 MOA of elevation travel.

With a $2700 MSRP, we expect Trijicon’s new 5-50X scope to have a “street price” of about $2400. That lines up with the NightForce 15-55x52mm Competition, now priced at $2352.00 on Amazon.

The new Trijicon 5-50x56mm (RS50 Series) scope boasts some nice features. Employing extra-low dispersion glass, the scope offers high light transmission with minimal chromatic aberration. The magnification control lever can be moved to two different positions to suit the operator. Both MOA and MIL reticle styles are illuminated with 5 red and 5 green user-selectable brightness settings.
We hope to get our hands on one of these new Trijicon 5-50X scopes soon for testing. We’ll let you know how it stacks up against other high-magnification zoom scopes, such as the Vortex 10-60x52mm Golden Eagle, the Nightforce 15-55x52mm, and the March 5-50x56mm.
Product Tip from EdLongrange. Video and Trijicon Brochure from Erik Cortina. Please note, along with this 5-50x56mm scope, Trijicon has also introduced a 4.5-30x56mm RS30 Series scope. 10× zoom… very bad for clearity. nightfoce has 3,7×
clicks are good at trijicon?
Confused why this is only being offered as a Second Focal Plane scope. Makes the MOA or Mil reticle useless except at on magnification on the band, but if it were FFP the subtensions would be useable at all mags. Is that an error in the article, or a mistake by trijicon?
Editor: These high-magnification scopes are used almost exclusively in disciplines/applications where you are shooting at known distances, so ranging is irrelevant. Also, most competition shooters don’t want a reticle that gets thick at high magnification. In terms of wind hold-off, having the precise MOA is available at 40X, or you can just hold to a specific ring, which is a fixed MOA from center. Trijicon probably noticed that almost nobody has asked for a FFP 50X scope. The MIL version does have wind hold-off marks. See bottom graphic.
Why 5 power? What ya shooting at in a class bench rest comp with 5 power.. why won’t someone make a 20×50. To far of a spread between low and high power… a bison at 1000 yards on 50 power probably looks like an old toaster oven… yuuuuck.. especially for the $ double yuuuck
Editor: Five power might be useful for a varminter or a tactical shooter, but they would probably be interested in the 4.5-30X Trijicon.
I would love to try this out on my Ruger Precision 308 at a thousand yards.
It’s unfortunate there aren’t any reviews of this scope, I’m in the market (but want MRAD) and don’t want to buy the Golden Eagle & switch to MOA. There was a lengthy review on THE TRUTH ABOUT GUNS by Kat Ainsworth, but I’m not completely sold that she’s an experienced longrange shooter who can discern the differences between good glass & excellent glass.
I’m interested in what this scope has to offer on a .338 Lapua mag. If I get one I’ll be sure to come back and give it a review.
