ACE Skeleton Stock on Sale

The Ace Skeleton stock for AR15s is a quality product that is popular with 3-Gun and USPSA competitors. MidwayUSA has the stock on sale for $69.99 now through the end of November. That’s a $15.00 savings off normal pricing. The sturdy, light-weight ACE stock offers three (3) sling positions: right and left behind the receiver and at the toe of the butt. The closed-cell foam overtube provides a comfortable cheek weld and insulates the shooter’s face from temperature extremes. Midway purchaser J. McDaniel reports: “Excellent product–the foam tube gives a comfy cheek weld and the multiple sling stud attachment points come in handy when using a 3-point sling. The foam doesn’t hold up very well to rough handling, but replacements are very inexpensive.”

MidSouth Now Carries Berger Bullets

Midsouth Shooters Supply has recently added Berger Bullets to its inventory. Midsouth’s representative informed us that: “Finally after about 4 years of discussion, [Midsouth has] picked up Berger Bullets. Our prices are very competitive. We actually based our final decision after reading some of the 6mmBR articles and looking in your forum and seeing how many of your shooters prefer Berger.” We applaud this move by Midsouth. This should give our readers a new affordable source for Berger match and hunting bullets.

Also check out Midsouth’s Fall “E-Flyer”. There are many good deals, including a handsome, khaki shooting cap for just $2.99 (with purchase of other items). Act soon though–the last batch of these promo hats sold out quickly.

Kelbly Radius-Toe BR Stocks, NEW for $250.00

Forum member Hammer47 (Gary R.) has acquired a large inventory of 3″-forearm, older model Kelbly benchrest stocks with a radius on the bottom of the buttstock. Apart from color and the radius, these are otherwise identical to current Kelbly stocks which feature a 1/2″ flat on the buttstock’s toe. Gary explains: “[I’ve] bought all of the inventory of the BR stocks with the older style ’rounded’-bottom buttstock. The new stocks are the same except that the bottom of the rear of the stock is flattened by one half inch. These are 100 percent stocks, not seconds, just the older style. [I] will sell these for $250 SHIPPED to your USA address. Have both RB/LP and LB/RP. These stocks are flat black and will need slight sanding to remove the mold separation marks and a shot of flat black paint or a custom paint job if you are so inclined.” The stocks are all inletted for Stolle Panda actions, but this will also fit Stiller Viper/Python, and the inletting can be modified for some other custom actions.

Shooting Chrony F1 Master Chronograph on Sale–Just $79.99

Now through November 30, 2007, MidwayUSA has the F1 Master Chronograph (Item #688064) on sale for just $79.99. That’s $24.00 off the regular price. This unit includes the remote screen. All components (other than diffuser screens and screen supports), fold up into the hinged case for easy transport. NOTE: the F1 Master has a remote display, but this is NOT a full-featured remote control. You won’t be able to edit strings or switch between functions from the bench (only the more expensive models of Shooting Chronys allow that.) Just bring a pencil and pad to record your shots.

Shooting Chrony F1 chronograph

Is this worth buying? We’ll be honest, Shooting Chronys can be finicky in very strong sunlight and when the light comes from a harsh angle. They usually work best with hazy mid-morning light. Function-wise, this is a pretty “bare bones” unit. However, the Shooting Chrony design is very compact and easy to set-up. We keep an older Shooting Chrony in the car at all times as a “spare”. It can be put “into action” in under 5 minutes (using an inexpensive tripod with quick-release mount). At a cost of $79.99 you can almost afford to have a Shooting Chrony F1 Master as a “back-up” device–and one to use with hand-guns. If, heaven forbid, you hit the device, it’s nice to know it didn’t cost much.

Redding Case Neck Gauge on Sale at Midsouth

The Redding Case Neck Gauge is one of the better tools on the market for measuring neck-wall thickness. It works quickly and is both repeatable and accurate. When turned and unturned necks were checked first on the Redding tool and then double-checked with a Starrett ball mic, the results were the same–but of course the task can be completed much faster with the Redding gauge or similar tool.

Redding Case Neck GaugeNeck-wall thickness gauges are not just for folks who turn necks. For best accuracy, you want cases that have the same neck-wall thickness so you maintain consistent neck tension case to case. Likewise you want to eliminate cases with necks that are much thicker on one side than another. Even if you shoot “no-turn” necks, this tool lets you efficiently sort cases by neck-wall thickness and uniformity. That can dramatically improve accuracy.

The Redding Case-Neck Gauge comes complete with a .001″ Dial Indicator and two pilots (.22 and .30 caliber). With a MSRP of $96.00, this unit typically sells for $78 to $84.00. Right now, Midsouth Shooter’s Supply has the Redding Case-Neck Guage, item 076-26400, on sale for just $56.88, including two mandrels and both .22 and .30 caliber pilots. If you shoot a 6mm, 6.5mm, or 7mm, you’ll need to purchase a separate pilot for $4.09. CLICK HERE for a web brochure with more details.

Harris Swivel Bipods on Sale Again At MidwayUSA

Now through November 30th, MidwayUSA has sliced $15.00 off the price of the our two favorite Harris Bipods, the BR swivel model and the Medium (9-13″) swivel model with notches. If you don’t have a Harris bipod yet, now is a great time to buy.

With light-recoiling calibers, the short, 6-9″ Benchrest model Harris bipod works very well on benches and is more handy than carrying around a big, heavy pedestal front rest. This short bipod works great with many rimfire rifles. For bench-shooting, the “S-BRM” model with swivel, Midway item 155546, is ideal. We like the fast and positive height adjustment offered by the leg notches. If you prefer, the S-BR model without notches, Midway item 652827, allows you to fine-tune the leg height. Both “BR” bipods are sale-priced at $79.99 ($15.00 off regular price).

Harris BR Swivel Bipod

For field use, we recommend the larger Harris model “S-LM”, Midway item 328534. Also on sale for $79.99 ($15.00 off), the Harris S-LM adjusts from 9″-13″ using leg notches. When shooting in the field it is faster and easier to adjust leg height with the built-in notches. The greater height (compared to the BR model) helps you shoot over the grass or compensate for small mounds between your muzzle and the target.

Innovative Shooting Bag with Retractable Rest

Here is an interesting product, currently on sale as a $19.99 “October Special” at Midsouth Shooters Supply. The Shooters Ridge Varminter Shooting Bag is a roomy gear bag fitted with a built-in rifle rest that retracts into the front pocket. The bag is built of rugged 1200-denier nylon, PVC-coated for rain resistance. It is big enough to hold ammo, muffs, binoculars, compact spotting scope and more. The bag also includes a padded shoulder strap.

shooters ridge varminter bag

While the integral rest is hardly a substitute for a good pedestal rest, this Varminter bag could be useful for the walk-around varminter or a shooter who might otherwise use a rucksack as a handy rest. At just $19.99, this product is a very good deal for a roomy range bag even without the integral rest feature. This bag regularly retails for $39.00 to $46.00 at other vendors including a lightweight shooting mat. (The $19.99 Bag sold by Midsouth, item 097-40484, does NOT include a mat). Here is a report from a Cabela’s customer: “There is plenty of room for gadgets and ammo, not to mention the fact that I have one less thing to carry when zeroing at 100 yards. I’m not sure that I would use this for any long range shooting or hunting but when sighting in my 243 WSSM it gave me the stability to produce consistent satisfactory 1/2″ groups with factory loads.”

To further sweeten the deal, Shooter’s Ridge is currently offering a FREE $24.99 Multi-tool, if you purchase $30.00 or more of Shooter’s Ridge Products.

New 22-cal Berger 82gr Bullets At Powder Valley

Berger recently introduced a new, high-BC 22-caliber bullet with a forgiving non-VLD design. This new bullet is designed for long-range use, single-loaded in an AR15 service rifle or cross the course rifle. It will also be ideal for use in a .223 Remington F-TR class rifle.

The new 82gr Berger has been somewhat hard to find, but Powder Valley has received a shipment. Powder Valley’s owner Bryan tells us: “The Berger .224 82 gr BT is in stock and ready to ship. Only a limited supply is available. The 82gr BT has performed exceptionally well in all tests. The G1 BC is .450 and we are recommending a 1:8″ twist or faster. This bullet is perfect for those who shoot heavy 22 cal but do not like the sensitive nature of the VLD-type bullets. All tests show that this bullet shoots very well at any OAL and with most loads. At Camp Perry, Shawn McKenna used this bullet on his way to a 2nd place in the NRA Civilian Service Rifle National Championship.” Bryan added: “If you mention this Bulletin notice, you will receive an additional 5% discount.” Call Bryan at (800) 227-4299 to order.
