10. Amazon — Feyachi AR Brass Shell Catcher, $11.99
⏺ Many great features — holds its shape, easy to empty
Shooting AR-platform rifles can be fun but they can eject spent cases a considerable distance. Nobody likes to chase down the fired brass tossed out by these semi-auto rifles.
An easy fix for brass-chasing chores is the Feyachi Brass Shell Catcher. This attaches to the side of your AR and capture all your ejected cases. This new version features a strong 45-deg upper wire frame so the entire unit sticks out further and holds its shape better. There is also an updated Velcro attachment plus reinforced mesh that retains large amounts of brass. With these design enhancements, this is a smart choice AR brass-catcher. This unit also boasts a zipper at the bottom for quick and easy brass removal.
Want to instantly measure your shot groups with precision, just by using your smartphone? You can do this with the excellent, proven Ballistic-X program, which has versions for both Android and Apple (iOS) devices. Ballistic-X is handy, relatively precise, and easy to use. But it does cost $7.99.
If you want to try a group measuring App that is completely FREE, there is a good new Android App called My Shooting from Bokili Production software. This new My Shooting App was created by a match shooter in Europe. It actually offers some cool features not available with most other group-measuring Apps. For example you can measure and display MULTIPLE group sizes on the same screen and keep them all in one file so you can quickly compare group size. There is a radius value in addition to group size (center to center of farthest shots). The App also includes an INFO box where you can display rifle type, sights/optics, ammo caliber, target distance, date, and even wind values and temperature. That’s handy.
FREE APP — You can download My Shooting App from the Google Play Store for FREE. Sorry there is NO Apple iOS/iPhone version at this time.
My Shooting lets you take images and perform all measurements internally within the application. To use the My Shooting App, simply take a photo of the target(s) with your smartphone. Then enter a known dimension on the target (such as the diameter of 10 Ring). Next click a circle on each shot-hole, and then mark the aiming point on the target. The App then does all the calculations, listing the group size in inches or mm (as you prefer). The App also list the Radius of the group, and the group’s Point of Impact (POI) separation from the Point of Aim.*
NOTE: If you enter bullet caliber and target distance, My Shooting App will display the angular measurement in MOA or Milliradians. That can be VERY handy when shooting at long ranges. The “smart” App shows the group’s actual dimension PLUS the equivalent MOA or Mils at your shooting distance. The App lets you choose either imperial (inches/yards) or metric measurements (millimeters/meters).
Bojan Radović, the creator of My Shooting App, is a shooter himself and an AccurateShooter.com visitor. He told us: “I am a shooter and a programmer from Europe. I recently created an Android App that works very precisely to measure a group of hits. The application is free!” NOTE, however, like most free Apps, the My Shooting App does contain small advertisements.
* POI (indicated with “X”) is precisely calculated as the mean value of all hits in relation to the center of the target — i.e. the mean distance from Point of Aim. The POI location reference (e.g. “down-left”) states a directional angle for which you can make a correction on your optical sight. POI displays with an actual distance (mm or inches) and the equivalent MOA or MRAD.

User Q & A about Vortex Riflescope Options
Q. What is the difference between the new Venom and the Vortex Strike Eagle?
Vortex: The main differences will be that the Strike Eagle has locking turrets, an illuminated reticle, and a slight step up optically compared to the Venom. This VIDEO should explain the differences pretty well: Venom vs. Strike Eagle vs. Diamondback.
Q: Optically what is the difference between the Venom and the Vortex PST Gen 2? Looks like they both use the same lens and different coating.
Vortex: The Viper PST Gen II will be a noticeable step up optically. It will have better clarity, resolution, and low-light performance when compared to the Venom.

Proper eye protection is ‘must-have’ gear for shooting sports. In addition to providing reliable impact protection, good shooting glasses should be comfortable, fog-free, and not interfere with your preferred hearing protection. Those who require corrective lenses also need to consider the various options available. In a past episode of their Weekly Gear Review, the 6.5 Guys discuss a variety of shooting glasses they have tried, including examples from DeCot, Oakley, and Wiley-X. Ed and Steve outline the key considerations when choosing eye protection, and then review practical aspects of eyewear design and construction that enhance comfort and functionality in the field.
The 6.5 Guys (Ed and Steve) offer a number of smart tips consider safety eyewear, helping you select the most effective safety glasses at an affordable price. Here are the 6.5 Guys’ KEY Take-aways when choosing shooting glasses, including prescription eyewear:
Key Things To Consider When Choosing Eye Protection
1. Avoid polarized lenses or lenses that reduce light transmission significantly (except for action shooting in very bright conditions with large, close targets).
2. Avoid frame designs that interfere with prone shooting.
3. Avoid designs that easily fog.
4. Avoid frame designs with thicker temples that are uncomfortable to wear underneath hearing protection.
5. Select lenses with an appropriate degree of ballistic protection. CLICK HERE to learn more about eyewear safety standards.
6. When you get your prescription, be sure your ophthalmologist includes the interpupillary distance. This is a critical measurement particularly for heavier prescriptions.
7. If you have a complicated prescription select a vendor who will actually spend time with you to address any concerns.
Horrific .50 BMG Kaboom — Eye Saved by Protective Eyewear
Think you don’t need eye protection? Watch this video starting at 4:10. The screw-on barrel “cap” (chamber closure) of the .50 BMG action flies into the shooter’s face. Without eye protection the shooter would have definitely lost his right eye. (See video at 5:20 for analysis).
Safety First — Your Eyes Are Irreplaceable Accurate shooting begins and ends with the human eye. Your career as a marksman could be cut short if you don’t use good eye protection every time you go to the range and/or handle a firearm.
Every year, 1,000,000 people suffer serious eye injuries. Shooting is hazardous; it is estimated that there are 30,000 firearms-related eye injuries each year (if you include paintball sports.) After paintball, general hunting accidents comprise most firearms-related eye injuries.
Quality eye protection need not be expensive. You can find comfortable, ANSI Z87.1-certified shooting glasses for under $10.00.
If you select shooting glasses carefully, and ensure that your eyewear is safety-certified, inexpensive shooting glasses can perform very well. But you need to avoid cheap, soft-plastic lenses that claim “impact resistance” without satisfying a testing standard.
Here’s something of interest for benchrest competitors, particularly those who shoot at 100/200/300 yards. In those disciplines, high magnification is very important, and fixed-power options are popular. And in a game where the goal is to shoot in the ones and zeros, it is absolutely vital to have a scope that never experiences even the slightest shot-to-shot change (drift), and that allows very precise adjustments for windage and elevation. If you have a scope that moves internally, even the slightest amount, from one shot to the next, that can ruin a group.
Sightron recently introduced a new competition scope that should be a serious option for benchrest shooters. The new Sightron SIII SS 36x45mm ED riflescopes offer quality glass, precise adjustments, and reticles that hold steady — with no drift from shot to shot. This is a side-parallax scope with 1/10 MOA click values. MSRP is $1249.99* with an expected “street price” around $1100.00. Two Reticles are offered: Fine Crosshair (FCH), and FCH with 0.125 MOA Target Dot.
Sightron ExacTrack Windage and Elevation
When you’re trying to shoot one-hole groups, you need a scope that holds its values, and can also give precise, 100% repeatable adjustments when you need to dial a windage or elevation change. This SII SS ED’s ExacTrack windage and elevation adjustment system maintains proper alignment of the adjustments to the erector tube. That, Sightron says, ensures “precision and accuracy even when the most dramatic adjustments are applied.” NOTE: The adjustment values for both windage and elevation are 1/10th MOA. That is unusual. We usually see 1/8th MOA clicks in this type of scope. Here the click values are one-tenth Minute of Angle. (NOT 1/10 MIL). Sightron note: “Precise target knobs with 1/10th MOA click value provide hair-splitting accuracy.”
ED (Extra Low-Dispersion) Glass in New 36x45mm Optic
The new SIII SS 36×45 ED features precision ED glass for crisp, razor-sharp views with minimal chromatic aberration — Sightron promises “crystal-clear target definition” with no color hazing. The SIII SS 36x45mm ED boasts Zact-7 Revcoat multi-coated precision ground lenses. Sightron claims “the highest quality light transmission in the industry”.
A side parallax adjustment knob allows the riflescope to focus from 10 yards to infinity. All SIII SS ED competition target riflescopes are compatible with all air guns and are backed by SIGHTRON’s lifetime limited warranty.
* The Sightron Press release lists a $1249.99 MSRP, but on the Sightron website we are see a $1150.00 price for the SIII 36x45mm ED scope models SIIISS36X45EDTD/FCH.
