Great article. I have been waiting for an update on the 6.5x47L for a while now. That pre fit Savage barrel is tempting.
Amazingly (to me), in 5000 words, they do not even reference the CIP spec – http://www.cip-bobp.org/homologation/uploads/tdcc/tab-i/6-5-x-47-lapua-en.pdf
Editor: A link to the C.I.P. 6,5×47 Lapua specification PDF is now in the 6.5×47 Cartridge Guide. Thanks for the suggestion.
And you can’t research it ELR? It’s readily available!
Richard:
??? I did research it, that’s where the link came from. What’s your point?
Thanks ELR Researcher for the improvement suggestion.
Regards,
Ed
I found fantastic accuracy with IMR4007SSC. When used with Berger 130 bullets this powder really does well. A node can be found somewhere around 37 to 38 grains.
Using H4350 and the 130s, I get a TERMINAL velocity of 1450FPS at 1000 yards. That is pretty remarkable for a smaller cartridge.
The 6.5 x 47 is wonderful at 1000 yards.
Great artical but it lacks comparison to most popular 6.5 bullet out there, the 142 Sierra
One thing I am curious about is the number of reloads. Only 20 at best? That seams rather conservative. I have reloaded 6mm PPC more then 200 times. Is the author just being really really conservative?
Grimstod – thank you for your interest. We’re only reporting on what we have been able to verify. Indeed, our estimates may be conservative. Lapua makes some tough brass.
Thanks,
Ed
Guy – Thank you for your interest. We will be updating this guide periodically and that will include reload data for other bullets and powders.
Thanks! Great to see the info available. We had a Palma match this weekend and got talking about the 6.5/47 so I passed the artical along, interesting.
