Walmart Plans to Halt Sales of AR-Type Rifles

The days of black rifles at Walmart are over apparently. Walmart plans to halt sales of AR-platform rifles and other mag-fed semi-automatic rifles (as well as certain semi-auto shotguns with capacities of 7+ rounds). Currently, AR-15s and other “modern sporting rifles” are sold in roughly one third of the company’s 4,600 U.S. stores. Walmart is the USA’s largest vendor of rifles and ammo, so this is a significant policy change that will impact sportsmen across the country.
Walmart says that its decision to stop selling semi-auto rifles is prompted by reduced demand for AR-type rifles, rather than by political pressures. Walmart spokesman Kory Lundberg told Bloomberg Business, “If you have a product customers aren’t buying, you phase it out,” he said. Shoppers “were buying shotguns and rifles, and so we are increasing assortment in that.” Lundberg stated that Walmart would sell down its remaining AR inventory to zero as stores transition from summer to fall merchandise. In a recent CNN interview, Walmart CEO Douglas McMillon said: “Our focus, as it relates to firearms, should be hunters and people who shoot sporting clays, and things like that. So the types of rifles we sell, the types of ammunition we sell, should be curated for those things. We believe in serving those customers, we have for a long time, and we believe we should continue to.” But when asked if he would discontinue sales of semi-automatic long guns, McMillon said, “Yes.”

All guns have been long gone from the ny walmart stores. Fine buy elsewhere.

Obviously he is ignorant to service rifle competition.
They are a big business, and stock items that are money makers.
Apparently AR15s are never used for hunting in the eyes of Walmart Execs. I know lots of guys who hunt varmints with AR15s.
I know of quite a few guys who are refused varmint hunting access by the farmer because “he had one of them gi joe machine guns”
If you showed the action and barrel only of an AR and a semiautomatic Remington/Winchester deer rifle to a Walmart exec he wouldn’t know one from another.
Knuckleheads get all in a tizzy over the furniture.
Stupid!
You all know this is just PR window dressing.
There has been a glut of sales in AR15’s for a couple of years now. It would not surprise me the sales are falling.
I am surprised however that there will be no sales of AR15’S at any Walmart.
The idiots pulled them all out last week at the Wally nearest me.
Bought a Colt 6920 from that store a year or so back.
What’s obvious is they’re lying. ARs in the case regularly sold.
And they still sell all the rimfire to employees or friends…my son worked there for a few months and saw it going on.
Screw them.
Curate this.
Eventually all big stores (business) will cave to the strong arm of government.. When they have the power of regulation and a justice department that will not uphold the laws, You have a machine that will intimidate even Walmart..
Mr. McMillon.
You’re fired.
