Plastic Pistols at Perry? Yes It’s True… New Glock Match in July
The CMP has approved a new event for Glock pistols at the 2017 National Matches at Camp Perry. Plastic Pistols at Perry? Traditionalists may scoff, but this is certainly a way to get more (and younger) pistol competitors involved. The first-ever GLOCK Sport Shooting Foundation (GSSF) Match will be held on July 1, 2017 as part of the CMP’s 2017 National Matches. The inaugural Glock Match will be open to both adults and juniors, with two different categories: Stock and Unlimited.
The big news are the prizes — six Glock pistols will be awarded to top Class winners. The Glock Match will be shot on NRA D1 paper targets, with ten (10) rounds each at 5, 7, 10, 15 and 25 yards. NOTE: This is NOT a slow-fire match. According to the CMP press release, competitors will have just 15 seconds for each 10-round string. We hope that’s a misprint — ten shots in 15 seconds makes this a “mag-dump” contest, not a precision match, in our opinion. To compete at the match, shooters must have an active GSSF membership (you can join during match registration at check-in).
There will be two pistol classes, Stock and Unlimited. The Stock Class is for GLOCK firearms with components that are or ever have been available from GLOCK, Inc., though some modifications are permitted. NOTE: Fiber-optic and express sights are approved.
The Unlimited Class is for firearms with major modifications such as aftermarket barrels, mag funnels, recoil springs, and firing pins. Unlimited Class pistols can use “any non-post and notch sights including but not limited to, ghost ring or laser, electronic or optical sights.”
“This match was suggested by Bob Schanen, a valued, long-time GLOCK employee and Camp Perry rifle competitor for 30+ years,” said Brandie Collins, GLOCK public relations and communication manager. “The partnership with CMP in bringing this match to Camp Perry meets our common goals of promoting safe gun handling, marksmanship and introducing people to competitive shooting. Shooters of all skill levels will enjoy shooting this match.”

I was wondering if the NRA vacuum at Perry would create an opening for the may other non-NRA competition governing bodies to follow in the footsteps of the Springfield Armory match and establish footprints in Ohio. Apparently, yes.
I have been a way from most of the rifle shooting sites for a couple of years now, and the reason why is I started shooting Pistol match’s. I started out shooting Bullseye called precision pistol. This form is the accuracy challenge of the pistol world. The reason why I mention this is because of the statement of “10 rounds in 15 seconds as a magazine dump contest” The fact is 15 seconds is a long time, and it is far from a magazine dump contest. In bullseye the rapid fire portion shooters fire 5 shots in 10 seconds, with a turning target and there are a bunch of shooters who will clean the target with a perfect score. This is shot at 25 yards.
I am also very familiar with the Glock Shooting sports foundation or GSSF as I have shot a few of these match’s as well. I seen this post and it dumbfounded me as it is not on the GSSF’s web site, and the particulars made absolutely no sense.
With that said I called the Great people at Glock’s GSSF division and I got all the answers. They are super excited about this new match. The reason why the description of the match per this site sounded so odd, is because the CMP match is ran like a GSSF indoor match. The GSSF outdoor match have a total different format. Regardless the GSSF match’s are one of the best platforms for a new shooter to preform in.
The Perry CMP match will have three classes there is stock, unlimited and pocket Glock. The shooter has multiple chances to enter but each chance must be shot with a different gun. For example if you own a glock 17, a 19 and a 27 you can shoot factory class 3 times. The pocket glock division is open to Glock 42 and 43 models.
The match will follow GSSF indoor guidelines. Most times these match’s are fired on 2 NRA d1 tombstone paper targets. hey are fired in two series one target will receive 20 shoots the other will receive 30 shoots for 50 shots total.(Except Pocket glock where it will be 10 shoots on one target and 15 shoots on the other for a total of 25.) The targets will be placed at different yardages from 25 yard in. Generally closer targets will have 10 seconds for 10 rounds, and farther targets will have 15 second for 10 rounds. With that said you will place you target at the predetermined yardage as will other shooters. you will hear a tone, and you have that time to fire your shots. The targets are scored a zone hits are considered an x count, b zone hits are score with no addition time added. C zone hits are a 3 point penalty, d zone hits are a 5 point penalty, a miss will be a 10 point penalty. Time has nothing figured into this score. With that said a perfect score is 500. (Pocket Glock is 250.) Now for awards, they use a Lewis league format to award prizes. they will group shooters scores, and determine the splits. They break the shooters into a league either a league b league and c league. so if you have 15 shooters the top 5 are a league, the next 5 would be B league and the last 5 would be c league. They award prizes to the top in each league. That is the short of it all for more information on this match please refer to the GSSF indoor section http://www.gssfonline.com/pdf/Indoor-League/GSSF%20League%20Guide.pdf
