The Ruger Precision Rimfire .22 LR rifle is so new that no vendor has one in inventory yet. But you CAN pre-order one now for $399.99 from Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore (MSRP: $529.00). For PRS shooters and Ruger Precision Rifle owners, this may be an ideal rimfire cross-trainer, with ergonomics and balance like their centerfire rig. This PRS-style .22 LR rig has some very interesting features, including adjustable bolt throw that lets shooters change from a rimfire 1.5″ bolt throw to a short-action centerfire 3″ bolt throw, reducing the chance of short-stroking your bolt in competition. The Ruger Marksman trigger adjusts from 2.25 to 5.0 pounds.

Pros and Cons of Ruger Precision Rimfire
We are curious to see how well the new Ruger Precision Rimfire actually shoots. We should be able to test this rig at SHOT Show Media Day at the Range January 22, 2018. Hopefully it can deliver 1″ (or better) groups at 50 yards with good .22 LR ammo.Pros: If you are shooting offhand, or from barricades, this kind of modular stock makes sense. This rifle also gives Ruger Precision Rifle Owners a nice option for low-cost rimfire cross-training. We like the adjustable trigger. Ease of barrel swapping is a good feature. The fact that you can use Ruger 10/22 mags is a big plus. The adjustable bolt throw, if it’s 100% reliable, is a good idea for cross-training.
Cons: To be honest, we don’t like this kind of stock for shooting from the bench or shooting from prone with a normal V-top rear sandbag. We’d prefer a more conventional stock with a flat fore-end and a straight, smooth toe on the buttstock (not a Pic rail on the underside). The barrel attachment system may, initially, limit aftermarket “drop-in” barrel options.

Molded, one-piece chassis and adjustable buttstock assembly are manufactured with glass-filled nylon.

Angled Picatinny scope base with +30 MOA elevation for enhanced long-range capabilities.
Oversized bolt handle for positive bolt manipulation (same as centerfire Ruger Precision Rifle).
Anodizeed Aluminum 15″ free-float handguard with Magpul® M-LOK® slots on all four sides.

Looks kind of like a childs toy. What material is the stock? From the images it looks like a plastic – hardly seems conductive to a stable shooting platform with that narrow peice between buttstock and action.
I imagine there would be enough flex there to outweight all benefits from the adjustable buttstock.
Ruger is going to be selling these rifles like hot cakes. It’s interesting to see Ruger successively hit home runs with new product offerings while other companies, like Remington, are facing the possibility of bankruptcy.
I bet it’s fiber reinforced composite or similar and that it’s pretty rigid. It weighs 7 lbs which isn’t light weight. It’s a 22LR, not a 300 Win Mag; I bet you won’t even lose your point of aim while firing, much less feel the chassis flex. At the end of the day, it just needs to provide the same ergonomics as your larger rifle so that you can train with it.
Looks like it might be fun to put a few rounds down range through her.
But at the end of the day, it’s a tricked out 22LR made to look more on par with higher calibers.
I love plinking and precision shooting my 22s, so let’s see how this will compete with tried and true models. Also, like the 10-22, an owner could spend a small fortune on aftermarket add-ons.
It reminds me of those kit cars in the 80’s that were supposed to have people believe you were driving an actual Ferrari.

Needs to be offered in 17hmr we all a 22 already. I would love the centerfire 223 but a little to rich for me but 400$ For this one is afordable
Why would you need a +30 angled rail when range for 22 rimfire realisticly is 125 yrds max.
Editor: You may be surprised. With enough elevation in your optics system you can use the .22 LR all the way out to 300 yards on paper or steel (critters are another story). Rimfire tactical competitors regularly shoot .22 LRs at 200-250 yards. Run the Ballistics — for a 40gr (0.150 BC) bullet launched at 1200 fps MV (with 50-yard zero), the drop at 200 yards is 21.5 MOA according to JBM. At 250 yards the drop is 30.8 MOA, just about exactly what the rail provides.
You should try shooting a .22 LR at longer ranges — it’s good practice, particularly for perceiving wind changes. The wind drift at 200 with a .22 LR is like shooting a centerfire at 4-5X the distance.

Picked mine up yesterday. No chance to shoot it yet, but is is a well made piece of machinery
Took mine to the range today, and ran 8 brands of ammo through it. Three worked really well. The best, Federal Match 22, shot .145 inch groups at 50yards. Fine rifle

Took mine to the range again today. Not the best of conditions, windy, but at 100 yards with Federal UltraMatch, .71 inch groups

I just picked mine up at Field & Stream. I can’t wait to get her to the range. This is a very well constructed 22lr. The trigger feels phenomenal! I can literally feel the accuracy in this rifle.

I picked up one today. Got it home and placed optics and a suppressor on it.
Am very pleased with the rifle. It is quite accurate with a variety of rounds – including subsonics.
I am especially pleased with the handling and balance of the rifle. The bolt was a little stiff and rough when I checked it at the dealer. After I got it home and cleaned it up, it smoothed right out.
Up to this point this rifle is about all I could ask for.
has anyone thought about mounting ft./r.match sights for 3 position matches?

This firearm is “NO TOY.” It is well made. For those who complain about the “plastic”(?) this is a .22 LR cal rifle. Not the kind of rifle that is going to be used as an actual sniper’s rifle. If you are looking for something to fire that will not burn a hole in your pocket, this is a good choice.
