Should You Buy an AR? Consider What the Future May Hold…
The November 3rd election is just 18 days away. If Joe Biden wins, he has promised an aggressive anti-gun agenda starting with further restrictions on semi-auto rifles. Joe’s running mate Kamala Harris said she would enforce gun control via Executive Order. Gun confiscation by Executive Order happened in Canada when Prime Minister Trudeau, without legislative approval, ordered Canadians to turn in their magazine-fed semi-auto rifles.

Confiscation is NOT happening in the US without a full on, armed revolt. If Biden is dumb enough to try that, I suspect [there would be very bad consequences]. Lost a lot of respect for the Canadians when they rolled over on that travesty.
Completely agree with the ELR Researcher’s comment . An alternative view-point regarding the AR though . If you are looking at a rifle for protection , and self-defense , One must consider the SKS or the AK for a couple of reasons . One is “Hit” power , stopping power as both the SK and AK are .30 cal rifles , and require much less maintenance to be operational . Simple to operate , and have , generally speaking , identical range .
While I have not owned an AR is over 30 years, I currently own a .40 cal semi-auto pistol. Noting that the issue has progressed past a 10-round mag, such confiscation would, if not immediately, almost immediately, deal with pistols and non-AR semi-auto rifles…and semi-auto shotguns. MUST see that coming and STOP that first domino from falling!
Unless you are using Lapua or other QUALITY ammo, SKS and AK platforms ate NOT low maintenance.
If you fire off a packet or two of ‘Brand-X surplus” you need to do a proper field-strip and a THOROUGH clean within 24 hours. If you live near the coast, you will be able to hear the rust forming overnight after a failure o clean.
Chromed bores are good, BUT not perfect or infallible corrosion resistance.
Corroded springs WILL fail fairly quickly after the first bit of pitting.
If you plan to stake your life and that of your family on a firearm, give it LOTS of lurve….Karma is a two-way thing.
If “hit power” is your concern, consider a shotgun or the .30 cal version of an AR-15, the AR-10 (https://www.armalite.com/Armalite/Product-Category/Complete-Firearms).
