Redding T7 Press Has Loaded over 1,000,000 Rounds
Here’s something you don’t see every day — a reloading press that has loaded over 1,000,000 rounds of ammo. At the NRA Convention in Dallas, Redding showcased an old Redding T-7 Turret Press delivered to Sierra Bullets decades ago. 0ne of the very first T-7s made by Redding, this “old warrior” was used by Sierra Bullets to load over 1,000,000 rounds of ammunition in Sierra’s ballistics lab.
Redding T-7 Still Within Spec
After all that loading, Redding tested the press and, remarkably, found that it still remained “within spec”. Redding notes: “This press was subjected to real world reloading wear and stress yet remains within ‘new’ spec after this historic test”. At the Dallas NRA event, this press was fitted with indicators to show “just how good American Steel and craftsmanship remains after what, in a normal situation, would represent numerous lifetimes of use.”

Were they loading with “new brass” or “recycling” fired cases?
One of the things that became apparent many years ago is that the “grit” in fired primers (and pockets) gets loose during de-priming and, when mixed with a bit of oil on the ram and frame, makes an excellent grinding paste.
There is a LOT to be said for a separate de-priming operation that is performed on a “non-critical” press before case cleaning.
Thorough cleaning and re-lubrication of the press after use will also extend life AND maintain accuracy in performance. Wobbly rams make reloading straight-sided cases “interesting”.
There is a reason they did not indicate the turret. I have never seen a press with a center bolt type turret that did not have deflection during reloading. Still a good piece of equipment, but if you are going to proof test something do it right.
