Here’s another promo that can save you money on your holiday shopping. When ordering goods through Gander Mountain’s online store, use Coupon Code GME1205 during check-out. That code gets you $20 off a $100+ order (20% savings), $50 off a $300+ order (16.6% savings), or an impressive $100 off a $750 order (13.3% savings). This promo is good through December 11, 2010.
How to Beat MAP Pricing on Optics
Note that many premium scopes, binoculars, and rangefinders are governed by “MAP” (Minimum Advertised Price) rules imposed by the manufacturers. That means the list price is going to be the same at all authorized dealers, even the “super-discounters”. However, if you can use a “generic” discount code to get $50 off or $100 on an order that includes MAP-priced items, you’ll come out way ahead. MAP agreements prevent any seller from displaying specific items below a certain price point. But your coupon code effectively allows you to purchase below MAP price.
If you’re looking for “all things tactical”, including boots, cargo pants, packs, gloves, headwear, optics, rangefinders, and Pelican cases, U.S. Cavalry is a reliable source, with good prices. There are a variety of current coupon offers that can save you 5-12% on top of U.S. Cavalry’s already low prices.

As part of MidwayUSA’s Black Friday Week Sale, which ends today, Nov. 29th, MidwayUSA has discounted its popular Competition Series range bags. Both the compact version and the full-size range bags are deeply discounted for the remainder of today. The Compact Range Bag is just $29.99 in either black or olive drab, and the Large Range Bag, which is almost the size of a travel duffle, is $39.99 in black or OD. We think you’ll be very satisfied with either product (we like the OD color best). In April we field-tested the compact model and we were very impressed with the design and the quality. Below are highlights from our field-test. CLICK HERE for FULL TEST STORY.
MidwayUSA Compact Competition Range Bag
Measuring 16″L x 12″W x 10″H, this Compact Range Bag is definitely smaller than MidwayUSA’s popular Large Range Bag (22″L x 15″W x 10″H). However, the “Compact” version will hold plenty of gear — pretty much all a pistol shooter will need at the range. For a rifle shooter, it will haul ammo boxes, earmuffs, magazines, and other miscellaneous gear. The bag is made from a strong, heavy-duty PVC-coated polyester, with high-quality, large-toothed zippers. A comfortable, curved carry strap is secured by sturdy, all-metal clips. The “build quality” is visibly much better than most range bags on the market.
Deceptively Large Capacity for a ‘Compact’ Bag
To test the carrying capacity of the MidwayUSA bag, we loaded it up with 100 rounds of rifle ammo, 600 rounds of centerfire pistol ammo, 500 rounds rimfire, earmuffs and FOUR pistols tucked in the padded side sleeves. All that gear fit nicely with room to spare. (We recommend putting handguns in protective sleeves if you load two per side). The padded, full-width, zippered main pocket keeps seven spare magazines organized and protected. On the reverse side of the bag, a similar, full-length padded pocket provides undivided storage space. The bag’s many pockets make it easy to organize miscellaneous gear such as staple gun, target stickers, small binoculars, timers, and radios.
Here’s a good deal for a hunter or a tactical competitor who needs a solid, no-BS rucksack with tough construction, good stitching, and sturdy metal fasteners. Sportsman’s Guide is selling genuine U.S. Military Medium ALICE packs for $17.97. These are USED packs, but in good to very good condition. These are the same ALICE (“All-Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment”) packs carried by U.S. soldiers prior to the introduction of MOLLE system packs.
Note, the $17.97 surplus ALICE packs come without frames. They have adjustable 2 3/4″ shoulder straps with twin 4 1/2 x 11″ shoulder pads, plus lower and upper back pads. The central storage area is enclosed with a drawstring and 2-strap top flap. On the outside are three 5″ x 10″ outer gear pouches secured with metal buckles and web straps. These surplus ALICE Packs are available for $17.97 in either Olive Drab (OD) or Woodland Camo.
ALICE Packs with Frames at ArmyGear.net
If you need an ALICE pack with metal frame, ArmyGear.net has surplus ALICE packs with frames at super-low prices. A Large (2200 cubic-inch capacity) ALICE with frame is just $26.98. This big pack MUST be used with an ALICE Frame — you cannot attach shoulder straps alone. These $26.98 large ALICE packs include frame, shoulder straps, and kidney belt. The 1500-cubic-inch Medium ALICE pack with frame is also $26.98, in woodland camo. The medium pack can be used with or without a frame. ArmyGear.net sells the Medium ALICE without frame in OD for $18.98 with shoulder straps ($19.98 Woodland), or $12.98 without shoulder straps.

Here’s a sweet deal if you are looking for a premium hunting scope with great glass, extended eye relief, and a handy +4/-3 diopter. Leica Sport Optics just announced a Trade-Up Program for its 2.5-10x42mm and 3.5-14x42mm ER riflescopes. From now through January 31st, 2011, Leica will knock $500 off the price of a brand new Leica ER scope when you trade-in any “functional” scope. Yes, under Leica’s rules, your trade-in could be a $20.00 Leapers. That’s like trading-in a used Yugo and getting twenty grand off the price of a new Mercedes.
There is no brand or price limit on the trade-in. Leica will accept any brand, make or model of trade-in scope, so long as it is “functional” and a “clear image and reticle [is] visible through the scope.”
Leica is offering $500 trade-ins on its impressive 2.5-10×42 and 3.5-14×42 ER scopes. You can choose among five different second-focal-plane reticles, and three turret options. These scopes feature 1/4 MOA clicks, 30mm tubes, and AquaDura-coated high-light-transmission lenses. Typical retail prices on these products range from $1799 to $2139. With the $500 trade-in, you can get into a premium Leica hunting scope for about $1299.00.
Use a $20.00 Scope for Your Trade-In
The smart way to take advantage of Leica’s offer is to trade-in the cheapest functional scope you can find. You can buy used off eBay but you could get a busted scope that won’t qualify. We suggest you purchase a new $20.00-$25.00 scope and use that for the trade-in.
You can buy the Leapers Golden Image 4X32 Mil-Dot Scope for just $19.95 at DPHArms.com. Texas-based CDNN Investments also has scopes for under $30.00, including a 4×32 Simmons for $19.99. Drop an easy $20 on some cheap Chinese glass, and walk away with a life-time guaranteed Leica for $500.00 under the regular price. That’s smart shopping.
We admit, we found it hard to believe that a State government would actually waive state sales tax to promote the sales of firearms. But it’s true. For two days, November 26 and 27, 2010, South Carolina will exempt firearms purchases from state sales and use tax. South Carolina will waive the state’s sales tax on purchases of handguns, rifles and shotguns Nov. 26-27 during its two-day annual “Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday”, first conducted in 2008.
Tax Holiday Today and Tomorrow
The 48-hour tax break on firearm purchases begins at 12:01 a.m. Nov. 26 and continues through midnight Nov. 27. The tax exemption also applies to any local sales and use tax. While gun purchases will be exempt, you’ll still have to pay tax on ammo and accessories though. The notice of the Sales Tax Holiday explains that ammunition, black powder, gun cases, gun barrels, gun safes, holsters, and hunting clothes etc. are NOT exempt.
We salute South Carolina. At a time when many states, such as California, are doing everything possible to discourage firearm sales, and make it difficult for gun dealers to stay in business, South Carolina is giving hunters and sport shooters a break. This recognizes the fact that shooters contribute significantly to the economy and to wildlife conservation efforts.
