Team Smith & Wesson shooter Julie Golob has a message for Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 12th). Julie writes: “While some are using Mother’s Day week to push a gun control agenda, I’d like to encourage moms to ‘Take a Moment’. Talk to your kids about firearms safety. Help them learn what to do around firearms and have an open, honest discussion about guns and gun safety.
I truly believe that, no matter if you are pro-gun or anti-gun, everyone should know and understand the basic rules of firearm safety. It is equally important for parents to have the discussion about guns and what to do if your child finds one. Both the NSSF’s Project ChildSafe and the NRA’s Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program are excellent. They offer resources for parents, educators, and child care providers to help ensure kids stay safe.
In this video, Julie encourages parents to have “the talk” about firearm safety with their kids sooner rather than later, and provides tips for how to have a helpful discussion. Sherra Scott, a mom and a certified NRA instructor, agrees with Julie: “Whether you have firearms in your home or not, if you have children in your life, please watch this video and talk WITH them about firearm safety and what to do if they come into contact with a firearm.”

President Donald J. Trump will address NRA Members at the 2024 NRA-ILA Leadership Forum.
Former U.S. President Donald J. Trump will appear at the 2024 NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Trump will be the keynote speaker at the 2024 NRA-ILA Leadership Forum on Saturday, May 18th. The Forum starts at 2:00 pm on the 18th. This marks President Trump’s ninth NRA appearance, reaffirming his strong commitment to the NRA, the Second Amendment, and American firearm ownership.
Event Starts at 2:00 PM – Doors Open at 12:00 PM. Admission is free and will be first come, first served. Tickets are not required but you must be an NRA Member to attend. You may start lining up at 11:00 AM.
President Trump, an NRA Life Member, first addressed the NRA in Nashville in 2015. Since then, he has been a steadfast advocate for the NRA, the Second Amendment, and self-defense rights. In 2016 he promised to never let NRA members down.
As President, Trump made good on that promise by appointing federal judges who respect the Second Amendment, including three Supreme Court justices who played a pivotal role in landmark Second Amendment rulings such as NYSRPA v. Bruen.
Randy Kozuch, Executive Director of NRA-ILA, added, “President Trump’s presence at the NRA Annual Meetings is a powerful sign of his ongoing commitment to our constitutional freedoms and the [NRA’s] efforts to protect and advance the Second Amendment rights of every law-abiding American.”
The 2024 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits includes three days of free seminars and special events. On display in the 14-acre Exhibit Hall are the latest guns and gear from leading suppliers. In addition, hunting outfitters will promote their services. The event takes place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, 650 South Griffin Street, Dallas, TX 75202.
NRA Warns Against Booking and Advertising Scams at NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits
The 153rd NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits in Dallas, Texas takes place May 16-19, 2024. As the event draws near, the NRA emphasizes the importance of vigilance against predatory practices in the Tradeshow Industry. Exhibitors and attendees should be wary of various deceptive tactics, spanning from tradeshow services to hotel accommodations, attendee lists, and advertising claims. While some offers may be genuine, many are scams that could lead to financial loss without the promised services or outcomes. Some of the most common scams include:
1. Hotel Rooms/Fake Booking Agents: For the 2024 show, the NRA has partnered with ConferenceDirect as the Official Housing Partner for the Annual Meetings. Scammers may impersonate legitimate hotel representatives or housing bureaus, offering discounted rates to exhibitors and attendees. However, these offers often result in nonexistent reservations or subpar accommodations. CLICK HERE for official NRA Annual Meeting Hotel Reservation Site.
2. Advertising Sales: Scammers lure exhibitors with false promises of exposure through publications, event guides, or online platforms, exaggerating their reach and effectiveness. Some vendors misrepresent advertising channels and ROI, persuading exhibitors to purchase ad space based on misleading claims.
3. Attendee List Sales: Beware of scammers claiming access to comprehensive attendee lists and offering to sell this data to exhibitors. The NRA does NOT sell or distribute attendee lists for the Annual Meetings, so any such offer is a scam.
To avoid falling victim to scams, attendees should:
1. Only use NRA Official Partners
2. Exercise caution with unsolicited offers
3. Do NOT provide personal or financial information without verification
When in doubt, contact the NRA Shows and Exhibits Division to verify that offers or solicitations are from Official Partners. By remaining informed and vigilant, exhibitors and attendees can safeguard themselves.

2024 marks the 25-year anniversary of Project ChildSafe®, the firearm safety and education program of NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association. Since its inception, Project ChildSafe has raised awareness about safely handling and securely storing firearms when not in use, along with educating children about firearm safety. Marking this milestone, NSSF aims to raise $250,000 over the next year to provide more free gun locks and educational materials to gun owners across the country.
Project ChildSafe Has Distributed over 40,000,000 Gun locks
Started in 1999, Project ChildSafe began in just five cities in the USA. Now it has grown to serve all 50 states and the five U.S. territories. To date, Project ChildSafe has distributed more than 40 million safety kits, which include a cable-style gun-lock and educational brochures. The firearm safety kits are distributed through partnerships with more than 15,000 local law enforcement agencies and 13,000 organizational partners.

“For 25 years, Project ChildSafe has operated on both the national and local levels to provide genuine firearm safety solutions to communities that need them most,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO. “Since its launch, fatal firearm accidents have dropped to historic lows. The program also aims to prevent firearm thefts and suicide.” Bill Brassard, NSSF Communications director added: “[O]ver the years we’ve heard stories firsthand of how our safety kits have saved lives by preventing accidents and suicides[.]”
To mark 25 years of Project ChildSafe, NSSF hopes to raise $250,000 in funding for the program over the next year. Individual supporters and organizations are invited to donate to Project ChildSafe. Project ChildSafe is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization, and all donations to the organization are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Erik Cortina of Team Lapua has won the 2024 Texas State Long Range Championship for an unprecedented fifth time. Loading Berger 7mm 180 Gr Hybrid Target bullets in his own 7mm PRCW cartridge (formed from Lapua 6.5 PRC cases) Cortina outshot all F-Open competitors and scored a 993-51X. Erik has his own company, Cortina Precision, which produces barrel tuners, tuner/brakes, dies, and other products.
The Texas State Long Range Championship hosted by Bayou Rifles, took place April 12-14 at the Juliff Rifle and Pistol Range in Rosharon, Texas. The Texas Long Range Championship hosted the top shooters from around the USA, competing in both F-Open and F-TR disciplines.
“This year, the Texas State Long Range Championship adopted the Bisley pair fire format. This format requires shooters to alternate shots rather than string fire. Time limit is 45 seconds per shot. Reading the wind and staying focused is essential, so I decided I was going to ignore my partner’s shots and shoot my own match the entire weekend”, commented Cortina. “It worked out and I secured my 5th Texas State Championship with a five point margin. It’s one of the most fun matches I have ever attended.”
The F-Open category requires a rifle weighing no more than 22 pounds and chambered in any caliber .35 and under. Rifles are fired from the prone position with rear sandbag and adjustable front rest.
This F-Class John video shows the Texas match and includes an interview with Erik Cortina.
One of the world’s best F-Class competitors, Erik has won many other major F-Open titles in recent years, including the 2023 Southwest Nationals (see below), and the 2023 South African Championships held right before the F-Class World Championships last year. Below is a photo of Erik at the Southwest Nationals in 2023 with his winning rifle:
