Online Auctions Support Hunter Education

The Int’l Hunter Education Association Foundation (IHEAF) and GunBroker.com announce a month-long, online auction of guns, hunting/fishing trips and other outdoor merchandise to benefit hunter education programs nationwide. The special auction, part of GunBroker.com’s Heritage Partner Program, is an extension of the Hunting Heritage Trust’s “Treasures & Traditions” program. Stunning Southpaw Nesika 6 PPC at Auction

Our south-paw shooters often complain that nice “previously owned” benchrest rifles are hard to find. We’ll we spotted a beauty on Gunbroker.com, Auction #128642607. It sports a Nesika Model J Left-Bolt, Left-port action in a gorgeous, laminated red cedar stock with hardwood fore-end tip and polished aluminum buttplate. We believe this rifle was built by Richard Franklin of Richards Custom Rifles, a well-known accuracy smith, and the rifle looks to be pillar-bedded. The barrel is a LV-contour, 22″ Krieger, 1:14″ twist, chambered in 6 PPC with a .261″ neck. Total weight is 10.4 lbs. with a Leupold scope so you can shoot it in either Light Varmint or Heavy Varmint class. This 6PPC has seen very little use and appears flawless in the photos. The seller claims the rifle has been “test-fired only” and that the bore is pristine.

Auction starting price is $1699.00 with no reserve. The auction closes on Sunday, May 17 at 11:39 am Eastern Time. So far, this gun has been “off the radar” so there has been just one bid. But hopefully one of our southpaw shooters will pick up a beautiful rifle for easily $1300.00 less than it cost new. (Note: Scope is NOT included in auction.) Yes we know a fiberglass-stocked gun would probably shoot as well… but that wood is a feast for the eyes.

Help Young Shooters with Tax-Deductible Gun Donations

The Youth Shooting Sports Alliance (YSSA) has introduced a new Donated Firearms Program to help support youth shooting programs. If you donate a “previously-owned” firearm, the YSSA will auction the gun on Gunbroker.com. After the gun is sold, the Youth Shooting Sports Alliance, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, will provide the donor with a receipt showing the sale value. You can then claim this amount as a charitable deduction on your income taxes.

“The Donated Firearms Program provides an opportunity for sportsmen and women to donate their old guns and help the YSSA build the next generation of shooters” said David Baron, President of Baron Technology, Inc. and President of YSSA. Baron added “It may be just your old gun, but put in the right hands, it can help … the next generation of shooters and hunters.”

Prospective donors are asked to complete a sign-up form, available on YSSA’s website (or by clicking the above link). In addition to collecting the donor’s contact info, the form requests a description of the donated firearm(s) (including any known defects). The donor must also supply contact information for the Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder who will be shipping the donor’s firearm. The donor will be provided copies of all communications between the FFL holders involved. The donor must agree to pay for shipping of the firearm to the YSSA’s designated FFL holder — Red’s Army/Navy, Kitty Hawk, NC.

Auction proceeds will be used to purchase equipment and supplies for priority youth shooting sports programs nationwide. This is a worthy program that allows you to get a tax deduction for those old guns that may be sitting in your say. Visit the YSSA website for more information.

New Auction Website for Reloaders

In July 2007, eBay announced a policy banning the listing and sales of “any firearm part that is required for the firing of a gun”. This wholesale ban created an immediate vacuum in the auction market for bullets, barrels, slides, magazines and other firearm components.

There’s now a new auction site that hopes to replace eBay for sellers and buyers of gun parts and reloading components. ReloadersAuction.com launched in August 2007, just a few weeks after eBay announced its anti-gun policy. The creators of the new site, who are avid reloaders themselves, explain: “We started this auction site because eBay has stopped the sale of most all reloading supplies, gun parts, and most knives. We wanted to always have a place to buy reloading and hunting supplies at a great deal….” The site combines an eBay-style auction experience with enhanced features including “Want to Buy” ads and barter (“Swap”) offerings.

Because ReloadersAuction.com is so new, there were only 400 or so active auctions as of November 30th. But that should change quickly. There are some very nice navigation features which make the site easy to use. Right on the front page, “Ending Soon” and “Most Popular” auctions are listed in convenient table style format, so you can scan dozens of auctions in one glance. The “Most Viewed Items” also appear on the home page, highlighting good deals that you might not find via a word search.

We wish ReloadersAuction.com well. It is based in North Carolina, an area where gun rights are respected, and where there is a strong tradition of hunting and shooting sports. So, next time you need bullets, brass, or reloading accessories, check out this new site. There are some good deals to be had.
