Shooting ranges have gone upscale with the development of the “Guntry Club”. This new kind of recreational/social facility combines a shooting range with Country Club style amenities. Imagine a high-tech indoor range with “Pro Shop”, restaurant, and maybe outdoor shooting facilities as well. In the past five years, more and more of these deluxe “Guntry Clubs” have opened nationwide.
An episode of GunVenture TV featured some of the country’s finest gun clubs. Tom Gresham and RECOIL Magazine’s Iain Harrison checked out of the original “Guntry Clubs” — the Scottsdale Gun Club. Then, Tom visited a high-end facility in Centennial, Colorado. The upscale Centennial Gun Club features a retail store, range, training center, and lounge.
Here’s a CBS News report on upscale “Guntry Clubs”, luxurious facilities that target younger, more affluent patrons. Chip Reid reports on a high-end gun club in Manassas, Virginia: “This is not your Grandfather’s shooting range. Elite Shooting Sports is 65,000 Square feet of bright lights, polished wood, flat-screen TVs, and state of the art equipment”. Unfortunately for private shooters, this range closed to the general public in April 2023. Prince William County has agreed to purchase the Elite Shooting Sports facility as its new law enforcement training center, county officials announced Tuesday night.

Do you currently carry a firearm for self-defense, or are you considering getting a CCW permit? Then you should listen to Tom Gresham’s Gun Talk Radio this Sunday, April 10, 2022. Important issues related to firearms carry laws will be discussed. U.S. LawShield President Kirk Evans will be the lead guest on this Sunday’s radio show. Evans will discuss permitless carry, also known as “constitutional carry”, in American states. Evans, who directs the USA’s America’s largest legal service for gun carriers, will also discuss important distinctions between constitutional carry and carry with issued CCW permits.
This Gun Talk Radio show airs live on Sunday, April 10, at 2:30 PM ET. If you miss the Sunday broadcast, past broadcasts can be heard online via the GUNTALK PODCAST Site.
“Permitless or constitutional carry is on the minds of many Americans with the recent passage of legislation in Indiana, Ohio, and Alabama,” stated Evans. “With Georgia on deck to become the 25th state to make it law, people need to know what it means for them.”
“Lawful gun owners face potential risks as they reside in and travel through states with changing carry laws if they don’t understand how they apply to them,” said Evans. “We’ll discuss a broad overview of carry issues, plus which states are currently fighting for permitless carry and the educational Legislative Tour happening across the state of Georgia.”
Kirk Evans has more than 25 years of experience practicing law in Texas, focused on self-defense cases and constitutional issues. He has represented gun owners, instructors, ranges, and law enforcement and has reviewed and analyzed hundreds of self-defense cases. Evans is the author of several firearms legal publications, including Texas Gun Law: Armed And Educated.
About Gun Talk Radio
In its 27th year of national syndication, Tom Gresham’s Gun Talk radio airs live on Sundays from 2 PM to 5 PM Eastern and runs on more than 270 radio stations nationwide every week. Listen on a radio station near you or via live streaming.
There’s a good episode of Gun Talk Radio this Sunday, 2/27/2022. This week’s lead guest is respected author and former U.S. Army sniper instructor Ryan Cleckner. Host Tom Gresham and Cleckner discuss hunting, long range shooting, and tactical training. Ryan Cleckner is the author of the best-selling Long Range Shooting Handbook.
Effective Rifle Training with Ryan Cleckner
Along with his written work, Ryan Cleckner has created many good shooting videos for the NSSF, such as his excellent Understanding MOA Video. He also produces content for GunUniversity.com. Ryan is noted for his ability to explain complex topics in an easy-to-comprehend manner. This video below, covering the fundamentals of shooting, has been viewed over 2.9 million times. It’s worth watching, particularly for guys getting started in PRS/practical competitions.
In this video, Ryan Cleckner reviews proper technique for rifle shooters. A stable platform, sight alignment, sight picture, and trigger control are key fundamentals to shooting properly.
Tip on Viewing Your Reticle:
Cleckner: “Sometimes it can be difficult to focus between the target and the reticle, even with the parallax adjusted properly. I recommend you focus only on the reticle. Just like the front sight on a rifle or a handgun, that reticle is what you can control, and it’s what matters. Focus on a crisp, clear reticle, in a stable platform, and all that’s left is trigger control.”
Tip on Trigger Control:
Cleckner: “Trigger control is pretty straightforward, as long as you think about it as a continuous process, and not just one thing that happens. I like to think about it as drawing a line in the dirt. I like to think about this constant pressure that I’m adding as I draw this line straight back, and then… continuing to draw that line even as the rifle goes off. That’s the good follow-through you’ll need.”
Long Range Shooting Handbook — A Good Resource
Ryan Cleckner’s Long Range Shooting Handbook is designed as an introduction to important fundamental concepts such as MOA vs. Mils, External Ballistics, and Environmental Effects. It also include advice on shooting positions, and gun handling. Included are personal tips and advice based on Cleckner’s years of experience as a sniper instructor and special operations sniper.
The Long Range Shooting Handbook is divided into three main categories: What It Is/How It Works, Fundamentals, and How to Use It. “What It Is/How It Works” covers equipment, terminology, and basic principles. “Fundamentals” covers the theory of long range shooting. “How to Use It” gives practical advice on implementing what you’ve learned, so you can progress as a skilled, long range shooter. You can view Sample Chapters from Ryan’s Book on Amazon.com.

This week’s radio show focuses on Smith & Wesson’s decision to relocate to Tennessee. Tom interviews S&W President/CEO Mark Smith. In addition, Sunday’s show will include a lengthy, informative segment on airguns.
Tom Interviews Smith & Wesson President/CEO Mark Smith
This Sunday, Tom is joined by Smith & Wesson’s President and CEO, Mark Smith, to discuss the just-announced headquarters and operations move from Massachusetts to a brand-new facility in Maryville, Tennessee. Due to current anti-gun legislation being considered in Massachusetts, Smith said “… for the continued health and strength of our iconic company, we feel that we have been left with no other alternative.” S&W’s new headquarters will be located in Partnership Park North in Maryville, TN, in the greater Knoxville area. Production of semi-auto pistols and rifles will be moved to Tennessee, but revolver production will remain in Springfield, MA (for now). S&W plans to break ground in Tennessee by the end of the year, and plans to complete the operational move by mid-2023. An artist’s conception of S&W’s new plant is shown below.

Airguns for Target Shooting and Hunting — Pyramyd Air
Also this week, Tom Gresham talks with Tyler Partner of Pyramyd Air about the growing popularity of airguns. In the video below, Tyler covers some key basics about airgun shooting, stressing the affordability of shooting pellets pushed by air. You can buy 500 pellets for under $20.00. Compare that to the cost of commercial ammo these days ($0.50 to $1.00/round for 9mm pistol ammo), and you can see why airguns are becoming very popular.

You may want to monitor Gun Talk Radio this Sunday, March 28, 2021. This Gun Talk episode will be one of the most important of the year. The broadcast covers efforts in Washington to throttle the Second Amendment along with a shocking decision by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals denying citizens the right to carry firearms. This broadcast airs Sunday, 3/28/21 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM Eastern time. You can interact with the Gun Talk team by calling 866-TALK-GUN with comments and questions.
Multiple Gun Rights Issues Covered on Sunday
Important topics include the 9th Circuit’s recent ruling in Young v. Hawaii that the Second Amendment does not guarantee the right to bear arms outside the home, state preemption laws, a bid to end the FOID card, examining the partnership between the gun industry and the mental health industry. The show also covers the recent Boulder, Colorado shooting and a U.S. Senate hearing on the prevention of gun violence. Top Shot’s Chris Cheng testified in the Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing on Gun Violence Prevention. Chris stops by to talk about the hearing. CLICK HERE for Video of testimony at Senate Hearing.
In this Gun Talk episode journalist Emily Miller examines the Ninth Circuit’s latest decision regarding open carry. CLICK HERE to read Miller’s analysis of that Circuit Court decision issued Friday, 3/24/2021.
Young v. Hawaii Decision Goes Against Supreme Court Precedents
Speaking about the 9th Circuit’s recent 7-4 ruling in Young v. Hawaii, the NSSF says that upholding Hawaii’s ban on carry ignores the clear language of the Second Amendment and U.S. Supreme Court precedent of the landmark 2008 Heller decision and 2010 McDonald decision, which displayed the exact opposite findings. The Ninth Circuit’s ruling underscores the need for the U.S. Supreme Court to accept firearm-related cases for review to settle the long-standing disputes. Lower courts have failed to apply Supreme Court precedents and are effectively treating the Second Amendment as a second-class right.
“The blatant defiance of the Supreme Court to undermine Heller and hollow out rights afforded to individuals by their Creator and clearly protected by the Constitution is unconscionable,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior VP and General Counsel. “It is with amazing boldness that the Ninth Circuit brazenly sets aside not just the previous findings of the Supreme Court, which legally they are bound to apply, but actively chooses to ignore plain English and refuses to acknowledge the right to bear arms. We look forward to filing an amicus brief when this heads to the Supreme Court.”
On Gun Talk Radio this week, Tom Gresham covers the shooting in Boulder and the calls for new gun control laws that were launched within minutes of the breaking news. With random attacks always comes talk of mental health, and Walk the Talk America’s Michael Sodini will address mental health issues on the Sunday show. In addition, Illinois State Senator Neil Anderson talks about lifting the Illinois requirement to have a Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID) in order to purchase or own a gun.

With anticipated single-party control of the White House, U.S. Senate, and U.S. House of Representatives, there could be dark days ahead for the Second Amendment and the rights of firearms owners. Joe Biden has declared his desire to ban modern sporting rifles and Kamala Harris has supported the use of Executive Orders to carry out new gun bans and restrictions. This is worrisome to say the least.
The prospect of aggressive, partisan attacks on firearms rights has created concern among gun owners across the nation. We stand now, potentially, on the verge of the most extreme era of anti-gun law-making in this nation’s history. How will America cope with those challenges? That is the focus of Tom Gresham’s Gun Talk Radio Show tomorrow, Sunday, January 10, 2021.
