Mossberg’s New Mag-Fed Varmint Rifles Look Good
Mossberg has announced its new MVP (Mossberg Varmint Predator) line of dedicated varmint and predator bolt-action rifles, based on the Mossberg 4×4™ centerfire rifle. The big news is that Mossberg’s MVP rifles have a unique, patent-pending bolt design which allows them to reliably feed from AR15 magazines. Yes, we’ve been waiting for that functionality for a long time. Congrats to Mossberg for finally building a small bolt-gun that takes AR mags.
The first MVP Series Varminters were recently unveiled at the 2011 NRA Convention in Pittsburgh, PA. Two MVP versions will be offered initially. The first is a standard rifle with 10-round mag and factory-installed, Weaver-style bases. The second is a combo package which includes the rifle, 4-16x50mm scope (mounted), bipod, and 10-round magazine. Both guns have 24″ fluted, medium-contour barrels, with 1:9″ twist rates. MVP rifles will ship from the factory with sling swivel studs and factory-installed Weaver-style scope bases. Without scope, the MVP varminter weighs roughly 7.25 pounds. Mossberg claims its MVP rifles can deliver “MOA accuracy right from the box!”. We’ll see…
MVP Rifles Feature Adjustable Triggers
MVP rifles are fitted with Mossberg’s LBA “Lightning” Adjustable Trigger System, which adjusts from 2 to 7 lbs. pull weight. The LBA trigger, like the Savage Accutrigger, features a central blade that blocks sear movement unless fully depressed.
Nice Laminated Stock with Wide Fore-End
One of the best features of the MVP rifles is the stock, which comes with factory-fitted pillars. Mossberg fitted the MVPs with a nice, laminated stock that should work well either on sandbags or when shot from bipod. To ride the bags better, the fore-end is wider than typical hunting stocks, with a flat bottom. Stippling on the fore-end and pistol grip provide for positive hand placement. We think this stock is a pretty good design for the rifle’s intended uses.

Mossberg hasn’t built anything decent since the old model 151 rimfires. I’d be shocked if this was any good.
Great concept, too bad it is on a platform with a “walmart special” reputation.
However, hats of to Mossberg for bringing the concept to reality…

Just what we need, another low grade Savage variant…What’s next, a revolutionary “new” AR-15 or 1911??
Mossberg is widely accepted as a value for money firearm in Australia. The are popular as a ranch gun and get banged around in the back of the ute and on trail bikes. The MVP will be popular down under due to our thin skinned game such as Roos, Foxes and Dingos the 10round detachable magazine is a positive plus for us Aussie shooters.

Ken,
Thanks for your email. The MVP Series of rifles is a very exciting and innovative concept. Due to a delay from a vendor, who is supplying some parts, production will not begin until later this month. I would anticipate MVP Varmint rifles on dealer’s shelves in March. Look for more introductions to this family of bolt-action rifles later this year.
Several publications have featured very-detailed reviews of the MVP rifle. One of the best was in the November issue of RifleShooter magazine.
Thanks again for your comments.
Best regards,

Here in PA, not too many vendors are aware this is coming out. I inquired at 3 and had to give them information about the MVP 223. One place told me that they are going in two weeks, to a buyers show, where they usually order their Mossberg models.
I am interested when & where this rifle becomes available, so I can order one…
that new 223 look real nice going to look in to getting one i really like the 223 caliber.
great to see comments and for those who have the money to buy above the mid range that Mossberg sell in go on you .
Dont have a go at the manufacture for providing a good product for the $$$$ and remember it isnt the $500 or $5000 rifle that makes the difference it is the user !!!!
Good on Mossberg , Savage and Marlin for doing a good work horse range of rifles !!!!! I own all three makers coupled with Tikka , Sako ,Winchester and Browning !!!!!
I have a Masters in Marketing…..and was a top shooter when I was in the US Army. I also have experience in 6PPC Benchrest. I would bet good money that I can out shoot most of you on this page. Also,it is my understanding that there is new management at Mossberg and they have some new innovative ideas to bring to market. Don’t let the price fool you my little grasshoppers…..stand back and watch….it’s a new day….WAKE UP…!!!
