Weatherby Recalls SS Vanguards for Barrel Nut Problem
Weatherby has issued an important safety recall of a series of stainless-barreled Vanguard hunting rifles. If you have one of the affected Vanguards, you should stop using your rifle immediately. The problem centers on the barrel nut used to secure the barrel. According to Weatherby: “On some Stainless Steel Vanguard Rifles the barrel nut is not tightened to required torque specifications. The use of the rifle with an improperly torqued barrel nut may lead to failure in a discharge situation which could result in a personal injury.” For additional information, contact the Weatherby Registration Center by calling (888) 770-7138 or sending email to: regcen@realtimeresults.net .

correct me if im wrong but vanguards don’t have a barrel nut?!!
Apparently some do now. Here is the recall notice on Weatherby’s website. Note multiple references to “Barrel Nut”:

I think it could be a translation issue at the Japanese factory, I’m very sure there is no savage style nut. I suspect they mean receiver/barrel.
EDITOR: You could be correct. However, when we publicize recoil notices, we are very careful to use the exact words chosen by the manufacturer, so to avoid any claim of journalistic exaggeration. There is a link to the notice on the Weatherby website.
in hind sight, a wise choice
Just read about the problem with Weatherby stainless steel barrels. I purchased one during the time mentioned and have seen two serial # lists that are not the same. Please advise me if my rifle is one of those affected. My serial # is VS386931. Thank you. Joann Earle
i have the weatherby that is on the list but my problem is that you have to take off the scope and mounts send it and it could be 6 or more weeks without your gun and then when you get it back you have to pay out of pocket again to have bore sight and mount and then resight when i bought the gun thinking that i bought a quality gun that i should not have to worry
Weatherby. Vanguards never used a barrel nut and the rifle in the picture certainly doesn’t have one.
