Coming Soon… Ballistics Software Package for Cell Phones
One of our readers, Rafal Walczowski, revealed that programmers from Poland have developed ballistics software for cell phones. The new program, KABAL, should be able to operate in over 90% of programmable mobile phones. Rafal tells us: “Our idea was to develop software which could be used on the most common devices people carry all the time — mobile phones.” Current mobile ballistics programs require a separate device (such as a Windows PDA), or are limited to a single type of phone (e.g. the KAC program for the I-Phone). The Polish developers came up with a handier, more universal application: “We made software that should work on every device with JAVA MIDP.2.0. That should work for about 90-95% of the phones on the market. And, later, we will make a KABAL version that runs with older versions of JAVA.”
Rafal reports the KABAL Ballistics program for mobile phones has worked well in field tests: “The algorithm for our calculator was field-tested for 18 months at ranges up to 1076 meters. Many different calibers, rifles, and bullets were employed during testing. We are pleased with the results, even when compared to QuickTarget and Exbal programs. Our KABAL program often proved more accurate, especially for long-range calculations, whereas QuickTarget and Exbal could be too optimistic.”
English Version Coming Soon — and Free BETA Version Online
Rafal reports: “Several weeks ago we finished the Polish version of KABAL and we are selling it for mobile phones. We are now are working on an English-language version, which is currently in beta testing.” There is a free English test version that works in a PC browser. This includes a BC database, a bullet stability calculator, plus tooltips describing each field. You can try out the free online beta version by clicking the link below. Rabal adds: “We would highly appreciate any opinions/feedback about our software”.

well I did this thing 6 times, since I shoot a lot at 600 yards the frist time was the close’s,it was with in 2 clicks under the condistions I put in after that it gave all different clicks, high as 9 clicks off. I did not change a thing. I have 4 different shooting programs and one in a hand held that I use hunting all so a hand held weather station with wind speed est. and GPs’s and range finders,so I do know what I’m doing.maybe something in the program of yours or maybe I left something out. Any rate, my 308 use’s were I shoot from 88-90 clicks as you know depending on the weather. Good luck with that program. I think it’s about time.
sincerely
Arlin
Maybe you didn’t uncheck the standard box for altitude 300 ft osl and changed conditions below. As noted in the tooltips, if you mark this option the standard conditions on elevation 100 m (300 ft) over sea level will be used for calculation and values below will be ignored.
Editor: I used the online KABAL program and it was within 1 quarter-MOA click of my actual comeups at 400, 500, and 600 yards.
Will you be offering the program using the G7 BC?
Algorithm for calculator is rather unique and can’t be simple compared to known ballistic models but it was designed to work with G1 BC (IMHO it works very good with it). For now we are not planing to make G7 version…
Please, could you explaion what engine is your software based on?
It seems like that the proclaimed accuracy is TOO optimistics to say the least.
You know, the real test is in the transonic/subsonic range.
thanks and good luck!
On the other hand, what you meant by “universal app” ?
Java is good only on certain phones, (Symbian especially) but Windows Mobile and iPhone are so far very well established platforms, in fact they are dominating the mobile market in terms of features and availability of apps.
Besides the fact that any application that runs on a PDA (Windows Mobile-based) will run also on any PHONE running WM, so why the issue with PDAs? Today such distintion is non-existent.
Please, could you show some screenshots? The website does not show any, at least I cannot find any there.
Does the app include G7 and graphical output?
thanks!
