SHOT Show Report: Hornady Unveils New AutoCharge Powder Scale/Dispenser
Hornady is late to the party with its first electronic powder scale and dispenser, but the new Hornady AutoCharge looks impressive. This product competes directly with RCBS’s popular ChargeMaster 1500. Similar in size and layout to the ChargeMaster, the new Hornady AutoCharge has three (3) speed modes, and will be more affordable than the Chargemaster. We like the idea of three user-selectable speeds, a feature not found on other digital dispensers from Lyman, PACT, and RCBS. The Hornady Autocharge also has calibration weights suited to both low and high powder charges. Hornady claims accuracy of ± 0.1 grain, the same as the ChargeMaster.
Hornady won’t start shipping the AutoCharge until April, 2010, so we’ll have to wait until late spring to get a test unit. Then we can see how the AutoCharge performs and see if it can really deliver repeatable ± 0.1 grain precision. We do predict that when the AutoCharge starts shipping in April, it will offer stiff competition for the RCBS ChargeMaster. Hornady’s red AutoCharge will sell for approximately $300.00. That’s about $75 less than the RCBS ChargeMaster 1500 scale/dispenser.

If it gets a favorable review and is not “made in China” I would consider it.
I stopped and looked at this unit and it is Made in China, but so is the RCBS powder dispenser. Between the two, I would pay the extra for RCBS. The RCBS seems to be much better made and it’s been through a few revisions in the design already to fix the initial design flaws.
too bad its red china and a 1 year warranty I had held off on ordering my PACT but with a lifetime warranty and made in the usa it is a go for me
It would be kind of nice if these product review’s included a mention of where they are made, or if not wanting to offend the maker/seller, then at least “Made in the USA”, when it applies. For me, I’ll continue to avoid buying anything “made in China”, especially these high ticket items.
I love how companies are copying someone else’s success these days.. They just wait out the efforts, and then ‘share’ the market with a counterfeit.
We should stop supporting products such as this.
Others similar:
Farley copies
Harris copies
Sinclair copies
And I’d be willing to bet that both the RCBS and Hornady ( and probably the Lyman too), powder measures are made at the same factory in Communist Red China. Remember folks, these are the same people making counterfit Leupold rifle scopes,Rolex watches, etc.
Im with all these other people. Lets be supporting our own countrymen..
I am wanting to buy a powder dispenser & was about to buy a Pact till I read the reviews on the unit. The Pact is very sensitive to Vibration & movement & has to be calibrated a lot. I Made a comment on a Reloading site about Products Made in China & was told it wasn’t a bad thing most are American owned companys. I ordered a Pact & Cancelled after reading the reviews, Now I guess I will wait till something good comes along if it ever does.
