The People Who Make Black Hills Ammo — Video Profile
Black Hills Ammunition has released a video showing the production process at Black Hills’ ammo plant in Rapid City, South Dakota. As you’d expect there is footage showing the assembly-line, with massive machines churning out loaded cases (look for the bullet seating machine). But this video has a second, softer side — it also focuses on the human factor at the Black Hills facility.
Black Hills President Jeff Hoffman narrates the video, which profiles some of the key production staff at Black Hills. There’s AJ the ‘gearhead’, who supervises the production process, making sure all the machinery is running optimally. When AJ’s not at the plant, he’s tinkering with his hot rods. Then there’s JB, the loading machine operator, who arrives each day at the crack of dawn and can’t wait to get to his machine. And there’s Laverne, who, for 22 years, has been Black Hills’ ace ammo inspector. The video provides an insight into the human side of the production process. We think you’ll enjoy watching.

Having just done some rather extensive work and testing with Black Hills .308 Win. match ammunition and .223 Rem. match and varmint ammunition for a magazine article project, I can say flat out they make some great shooting quality ammunition. It was a pleasure to get a break from the reloading bench and to just take a few boxes of Black Hills factory ammunition and go the the range and do some accurate shooting. Great job Black Hills and all those who make it happen!

That everyone seems to enjoy their work and take such pride in it is a credit to them and the team ethos prized by the owner/manager. Well done Black Hills!
Jeff; I’m c close friend of Benny Arego (Hot Springs, AR). He turned me onto my Sako TRG-42 27.5″ barrel (.338LM)specifically it was Eric Poole who wrote an artical “quest for cold bore accuracy” that caught my attention and search. Crazy Benny via John May at Wilson Combat turned me onto Benny over a year ago. I’ve successfully “doped” data to 1500M at Ft Benning using Seirra MK-BTHP with BH Gold. Woould really likek to know the propellant or similar perfomer in case you’ve “blended” a reciept. I get <.5MOA at 500M and the weapon's zero is 300M. No issues pounding steel at 1000M. I plan to use Lapua brass, FED 215M, VVN165 and Sierra 250gr MK-HTBT… your propellant recommendation is greatly appreciated. Damon Gooch, US Army, ATL, GA. GREAT articles. Help!
