Hoppe’s No. 9 Air Freshener (No Joke)
Here’s a notable product for the truly hard-core gun guys out there. Bushnell Outdoor Products markets an Air Freshener with the classic scent of Hoppe’s No. 9 bore-cleaner. Brett and Kate McKay, authors of the book “The Art of Manliness” list Hoppe’s No. 9 as one of the top 15 manly smells. We kid you not…
Bushnell’s product Press Release declared: “In 1903, when Frank Hoppe developed a mix of 9 different ingredients to create the original Hoppe’s No. 9 gun solvent, he had no idea that history was being made. Over the last 107 years the smell of Hoppe’s No. 9 has evoked fond memories of fathers, grandfathers, memorable hunts and great days in the field.
In response to consumer requests, Hoppe’s now has an air freshener with the unique No. 9 smell. The freshener has a string for hanging it in your gun room, car, garage, or anywhere you want the nostalgic smell of Hoppe’s No. 9. The Hoppe’s No. 9 Air Freshener will be available at your favorite sporting goods and/or hunting store and will sell for a suggested retail price of $3.99.”

Ahh, now if only they would come out with an aftershave !!
Aromatherapy for men at its finest! I will definitely get some!
I knew a fellow who made his teenage daughter put Hoppe’s No.9 on her silk scarf when attending high school dances to attact the “proper type” of young man. The effort was successful and resulting marriage has lasted 25 years and spawned two fine U.S. Marines. I recommend the practice.
I always assumed that was the smell of my brain cells dying.
We used to joke about a lil’ dab of Hoppes #9 behind the ears to attract the ladies… because its not good for much else.
I knew a bunch of SCCA car racers that used to drip CastrolR motor oil on candles during winter parties for its distinctive smell. If you raced, you loved it!
Beg to differ. #9 WORKS FINE!
I started wetting a small rage in Hoppe’s#9 & placing it in my truck to scent the vehicle.. about 10 years ago.
Would bring back memories as above. If a gal didnt like it, there’s the door!
Glad to see it available in something..drier!
Hmmm… I imagine the sweets 7.62 version will not sell well…
Save your money – the scent lasts about 12 hours once you open the wrapper.
Or buy a bottle of the real thing & “roll your own” maybe out of toilet paper cores.
Small cotton ball, replaced when needed, and soaked with some Hoppe’s #9 is all you need to get that grand old smell in your vehicle or room, just dip from your bottle on the gun room.
So much cheaper and always available, when needed, as long as you have, as most do, a bottle or two in the gun room for cleaning your firearms. SMILE.
