SHOT Show Report: Australia's Wild Dog Carbon Riflestocks
Though the use of high-tech materials, such as carbon fiber and kevlar, modern riflestocks have become stiffer, stronger, and lighter. Wild Dog, a small company in Queensland, Australia, is producing some of the nicest carbon-reinforced hunting and tactical stocks you can buy. Wild Dog stocks sport innovative features, such as a trap door for ammo storage in the side of the buttstock. Wild Dog’s hunting stocks are sized right and comfortable to hold — the comb height and drop angles are “just right” for a classic sporter.
And when Wild Dog says they can build a stock that’s “ultra-light”, they aren’t kidding. Wild Dog’s Bruce Simms showed us a lightweight sporter stock that weighed just 20 ounces! We were sufficiently impressed that we may choose a Wild Dog stock for an ultra-light, walk-around varminter project AccurateShooter.com has in the works.
This Editor was also very impressed by Wild Dog’s tactical stocks. The Wild Dog thumbhole will work for shooters with any hand size. The grip section of some other thumbhole stocks (notably the Accuracy Int’l) is very thick and fat (way too fat for this Editor’s hands). By contrast, you’ll find the Wild Dog thumbhole is comfortable and controllable even for shooters with medium to small hands. Wild Dog’s adjustable cheekpiece system on the tactical stocks is better than most — the hardware is simple but sturdy and the cheekpiece fits flush when retracted.
Overall, the Wild Dog stock designs — both hunting and tactical, are carefully crafted and very well thought out. The tactical stocks feel right in both offhand and prone positions. The hunting stocks are easy to handle and the hand-painted camo finishes really do work in the field, as you can see in the photo below.

Yes, nice product, but a lousy reputation for actually delivering the product once ordered. People in Aus still waiting 9 months after the stocks ordered, most having given up waiting and ordered something else as they never seem to answer the phone or emails or stick to a delivery date. Even a couple of companies who ordered multiple stocks at once have now changed stock suppliers. As said, great product, just don’t expect to see it anytime soon if at all.
I met some fellas from NZ at Shot this year. They also said these guys don’t deliver. Great looking stuff here hope they can get it together.

I doubt if they will ever “get it together”, it’s been going on for years and years
just ask anyone here in Queensland. I have 3 mates who ordered stocks and never got them and they know heaps of others, not even a phone call yet they they still go to shows to get orders but never deliver anything.

Ass the above posters mention…be aware that many people that I know have had the stocks on order for up to a year and they can never get anyone to commit to a delivery date. My stock is still on order but I got smart after talking to a local gunshop her in Brisbane where WD are based and got a McMillan. Have had it over 6 months and love it. Cant wait to tell WD when (if) they ever call that I ran out of patience after 4 months …. Buyer beware is all I can say.
Hahahahaha Wild Dog has been so slow at supplying the local Australian market that they now have to look to sell to the USA. Why is it like the above say that I have been waiting for over a year for a stock and they cant even give me a call to say that they cant supply. All the local shops in Brisbane where Wild Dog is based refuse to deal with theml Like Kerri above said….got a McMillan and love it.Wild Dog stocks are well made and an awsome product…..just cant handle the fact that [they don’t honor commitments] and well you get the picture. I was dealing with a guy called Steve and he just plain out wasted my time and after 5 months I ordered a McMillan and have since built another 3 guns and they all wear a HS Precision stock as they have a Australian dealer who had them in stock. Have not heard much good about the stock situation lately. Hope they can fix the problems.

Okies no worries and thanks for that.Anyway I think most people can see what we Aussies think of the buisness termn and ideas of WD.Really hope they can pull themselves out of this hole as a reputation is all you have to trade on.
I concur with what has been written about the business practices of Wild Dog. My mates and I waited over 12 months for stocks with lies, lies and more lies regarding delivery dates from Steve, Mark – and that’s only if our calls were answered which most of the time they were not. They never returned calls if we left a message. Gave up waiting and still haven’t heard if they have made them. Have also heard since that the paint jobs on some stocks have been flaking or rub off after a while and one stock split so in retrospect I am glad I didn’t get one. They have had too many chances and too much time to rectify the situation so all companies they have dealt with have moved on over the years (Lightforce as mentioned above). Take the advice in the previous comments and stay away from them as no one in Australia believes anything they say anymore and better products at a better price in the marketplace now anyway.
Well more news to add. A mate was over near where Wild Dog is based and went to see if he could find them and ask person to person as to the whereabouts of mu stock.He went to their shop and it was closed down and said that they had moved to a new address.He went there and could not find them even after looking at the buildings for 20 mins. Where have they moved to?????????No info on their website so whats the go???? Where are they as I want my stock!
I have just received my stock purchased from Wild Dog in Australia 3 weeks ago.
It was shipped an the 23re and got delivered right to my door in Germany) this morning.
I must say that I had a very good contact with these guys in australia. Always answered my mails right away and were quite nice on the phone. they said that they had some trouble with their business, but now seems to be back again.
The stock itself is very well made. Good buy.
